Skinny vs fatties

I have not noticed any difference in ride. Feels like it did stock. Like both my JLs. I run about 30-31 psi.

Thanks for the reply! I'm also a fan of sticking with the stock wheels and would prefer not having to resort to wheel spacers.

Nice. Post a pic when done. That’s why I keep the factory wheels and no spacers for my 37’s. They don’t sling so much snow and crap up in my door handles. If they would have made a 37-11-17 I would have bought them. I like the factory wheels.

Tall and skinny for me. 255/80r17 on stock wheels with 1.75” synergy spacers.

Narrow tend to do better in snow. Wider in mud. The thin ones dig and get you stuck. The fat ones float and keep you on top of it.

I had a serious Landrover addiction, not the fancy Range Rovers but the Series Rovers you saw in all the African Safari movies in the '50s-60s and predecessor or the Land Rover Defender. Used to get the Brit offroad magazines and tall and skinny was the order of the day for tires. They felt that a skinny tire would cut through the soft stuff on top and bite on the drier dirt/rock underneath. Seems there was a shortage of rock there and mud was the order of the day off road. Got over the Series Rover addiction but never lost my love for skinny tires as large a diameter as I could find.

Other advantages of skinny tires is they should be lighter and take less gas to push on the road.

Kenda makes 35/10.5/17 Klever RT and MT tires. The RT tire is a pretty aggressive tread for a hybrid on/off road tire.

I’m running stock rubicon Ko2’s (285/70r17) and plan on going with the falken wildpeak 255/80r17 this fall. Love that look! Still 33’s but an inch narrower tread

The newest Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT just came out, and they have a 35x10x17 (255/85/17)

I was the same way. Always liked LR and the skinnier tires. Funny thing is, when I got my Defender, it had very "Un Land Rover" 265/75R16 BFG AT tires! My JK had 255/75R17 BFG MT2's for a while before I went up to 35. When I get new tires for my JL, I will be looking at the 35/10.5 options available.
