That is just flat out cool! Original, too! Love it! (I'm a HUGE fan of the Corsair, too!)

I'm happy with the way it turned out, with the exception, maybe, of the chrome "Warbird Edition" text. When the weather warms up a bit I think I'll find some chrome 3D lettering (similar in size and shape to the original Sahara letters that came off) and replace the "Warbird Edition" text.

Perfect timing since Robert Conrad (Pappy Boyington) just passed away. He was the CO of the Black Sheep Squadron.

Yea, Being a huge warbird fan and Corsair junkie, I've read a lot about "Pappy". Here's a couple quick facts... The name "Pappy" was given to him by the press. The men in his unit knew him as "Gramps" (He was in his early 30's while they were closer to 20). Late in life he used to appear at book signings and air shows with his book "Baa Baa Black Sheep", often sitting next to Masajiro Kawato (the Japanese pilot who shot him down) who was selling/signing his book, "Bye Bye Black Sheep".

Just to clarify, Robert Conrad and Pappy Boyington are not synonymous. He played Pappy in the short lived series.

The real Pappy used to set up a booth at the EAA convention every year to sell books and sign autographs. Just one of the many heros that has come to serve in times of conflict.

Pappy Boyington did love Robert Conrad, though. He was thrilled he was playing him because they had much in common, such as being short tempered, and having a propensity to get into fistfights, lol! I remember back when the series first came out seeing Boyington in an interview where he went on and on about Robert Conrad.

That claim by Masajiro is somewhat in doubt.

I read that Boyington while in China shot up some planes on the ground and claimed them as air to air kills. Even if he did that, he still had a lot of confirmed air to air kills and was one of the most badass US pilots of the war. \ Of course, I believe the main source claiming some of the Flying Tiger kills in China were on the ground was a guy who didn't get along with him too well, so maybe he didn't fake them. Claire Chanault would know, but he's not in a position where we could ask him.

I vinyl wrapped my dash in olive drab
that was a bit of a challenge, wasn’t it? I wrapped my dash pieces in blue, but I felt I overstretched / overworked the vinyl around the air vents and didn’t trust it to stay put over the long haul.

Yes, it was quite the challenge. It was my first time wrapping anything and definitely a learning experience but I’m happy with the way it turned out. If it doesn’t hold up, I’ll do it again and better next time.
