Yes, my husband and I went all the way up. The drive was easy for my stock Rubicon and me with almost zero off-roading experience. The hike was somewhat hard for me due to elevation and high midday temperature, but doable. My husband says "moderate", but he's in a better shape. Bring plenty of water and go in the morning before it's too hot.
My favorite view is near the parking though, not from the fire lookout:

You hit the weather right and I just missed it. Took my JLUR to the summit on Saturday. 12 hours after the smoke rolled in. The shelf road was still worth the ride.
And when I got to the summit there was nowhere to park. I thought I was going to have to back down the narrow windy steep shelf road. But one of the Jeeps already there moved slightly so I could make a 10 point turn and park 200 yards down the hill. Can you see the JL?
