I’ve wanted to do that drive for a long time. Did you go all the way to the fire lookout? How was it? Thinking of doing that ride this weekend with some friends.
Yes, my husband and I went all the way up. The drive was easy for my stock Rubicon and me with almost zero off-roading experience. The hike was somewhat hard for me due to elevation and high midday temperature, but doable. My husband says "moderate", but he's in a better shape. Bring plenty of water and go in the morning before it's too hot.

My favorite view is near the parking though, not from the fire lookout:

You hit the weather right and I just missed it. Took my JLUR to the summit on Saturday. 12 hours after the smoke rolled in. The shelf road was still worth the ride.

And when I got to the summit there was nowhere to park. I thought I was going to have to back down the narrow windy steep shelf road. But one of the Jeeps already there moved slightly so I could make a 10 point turn and park 200 yards down the hill. Can you see the JL?

👍

Well, you skipped the parking area (39.595306, -120.654056) and drove straight to the top. But at least you didn't have to inhale the wildfire smoke while hiking up :)

Show off your scenic JL/JLU photos. They can be poser shots, actions shots, or whatever. Just keep them scenic. I'll start with a few. I'm not familiar with this forum's photo upload process yet, bear with me.

Man I miss Vermont. Lived there for 10 years. One of my best memories is watching the sunrise from a treestand in the Green Mountains. So cold and painful, but so peaceful. Life just slows down in VT.
