I was doing some spring maintenance on my 2021 Rubicon XR and noticed some really bad corrosion on the bolts connecting parts of the exhaust. It looks like the front pipe to me. I only see it on this part of the exhaust and the rest is completely fine. I assume this is not normal. Has anyone seen something like this before?

That's some pretty severe corrosion on a '21 model. I would think a heavy dose of road salt did it. Don't have that problem here in So Cal High Desert. We do get snow, and they do salt the bridges and mountain passes, but I rarely drive in it. If I do, I make sure to spray the underside when I get home if it's not too cold.

Thanks, I'm in the Northeast so I guess this is really a result of salt and heat as you suggest. I've got to find a better solution for rinsing off in subzero temperatures.

The good news is that everything else is rust free, so my fluid film coating works well.

Thanks for the reality check. I was a little surprised that it was this bad after only 14k miles.
Exhaust bolts corrode very quickly due to the heat. Anywhere where the exhaust expands and contracts will rust worse and much faster than other areas on the vehicle. Completely normal.

Normal, far from it, however its normal where you live. What you see is SALT corrosion on the bolts that hold you exhaust together. At that point in the connection you have extreme heat and splashing salt water from those Boston streets will do that.

I was in the Boston area several times a year on business and taking seminars at MIT. In the Winter time I flew and took a rental car but in the summer and fall I drove. I really like Boston, really enjoy my time there.

You might want to try and remove them by cutting them off and replacing with Stainless

You could try putting some high temp copper antisieze on them to help preserve them.
