I just turned my 18' JLU Sahara 2.0T, currently on the 5th day of ownership with 207mi on it, and my revs shot up like crazy (around 4k) while it was parked doing nothing. The screen said ”Service Electronic Throttle Control” and my CEL popped on.
I tried to duplicate it but now my CEL is just on.
Has anyone else ever run into this??

Hello joeltron,

We're sorry to hear you're having trouble with your JL. Are you planning on making your dealer aware of what happened? Send me a direct message to discuss your thoughts and next best steps.

Just had exactly the same thing happen this evening. Was driving fine, then CEL and a quick message on the cluster screen that said "Service Electronic Throttle Control" The CEL stayed on for a few start stops and the Jeep seemed to drive fine. Drove home and the CEL turned itself off. Will take it to the dealer in the morning.

Three months old. 1300 miles. Not what I want from a new vehicle.

Oddly enough I had this error display on the dash tonight. Just picked up the JL this morning and this is pretty upsetting.

The message was coming on and off intermediately really quickly maybe 10 times in 5 mins and would not stay on the dash for more then 1-2 seconds and disappear.

I drove straight home worrying I might get stranded somewhere. Opened the fuse box and made sure all the fuses were seated. A few fuses/relays weren't clicked all the way in.

I did not have a check engine light at any point.

We'll see if the issue returns.

Just returned from the dealer. Had them pull the code (could have done it myself with my own reader at home, but its a brand new car, so didn't want to disrupt anything).

P2181 - coolant sensor

Dealer says it is the second new JL with this error this week. They have to order a new senor (I assume it is the thermostat) and will swap it out next week. Shouldn't be an issue in the meantime to drive the jeep.

No Service Electronic Throttle Control message today but I had some new issues.

On the way to the supermarket I was greated by Service Start Stop. After the supermarket that message was gone but my radio would not turn on. The back light was on but the screen was just black. It eventually restarted itself twice and stayed on.

I need to look at the fuses during the day but this is getting old fast.

Finally scheduled for the coolant sensor replacement next week. Driving it while waiting for the repair. Yesterday, immediately after a start/stop restart at a light, the coolant temp dropped to zero and the dash said I needed to service the stop start system. The fan started running very fast (noisy). I pulled over, turned off the ignition, counted to 10, and restarted. Coolant temp was back with a reading (previously showed "---") and Jeep ran fine (including stop/start).

Looking forward to getting the coolant temp sensor replaced next week. Not sure why it takes three weeks to get a simple repair though . . .

2018 Jeep unlimited Rubicon, electronic throttle control light, and warning message, and the traction control light and warning message happened on Friday. Jeep slowed down to 5 MPH. I pulled off road turned off for 1 min then restarted. Lights went off. Dropped off at dealership, they notified that they needed to replace throttle body. Now waiting three days for part.

Just had this come on and the idle throttle is bouncing. I’m currently on Imogene Pass.

Resureecting this thread because I'm having similar issues. Getting "service electronic throttle body" warning light and vehicle just cuts off power, stutters, stalls.

If I start the Jeep and drive for any amount of time straight through I don't have any problem. It could be 20miles or 200 miles it doesn't matter. But If I drive for a while and stop and shut the Jeep off, (for something like a quick errand) then go to restart it, the "service electronic throttle body" light comes on and the Jeep runs like crap, stalls etc. If the stop I'm making takes a longer time (like driving to a restraunt and staying for an hour or so) it seems like either the Jeep cools off, or something resets itself and the Jeep will start and run fine. It's the short stops that make this happen.

It seems like the end game (from what I've read on these forums) is replace the throttle body.

Anyone have any advice or DIY on replacing throttle body? I don't have any warranty as far as I'm aware because I bought Jeep from rental car company auction.

Edited to say I have a 2020 2.0t Wrangler with only 10k miles on it. Very frustrating. Seems like this should be a recall for sure

Also got this message recently and CEL for several days. 2020 3.0 diesel@30k. The shop said they’d start with the battery. But no other advice. Anyone get a resolution?
