Again, guys your right 3.6 is dependable "some what" but so is a Honda , after 22 jeeps 2 JKs 3.8 , 2 JKs 3.6 , and now 3.0 diesel the torque in this puppy will clime a mountain while idling!! and still do 29 mpg. It's best to support our fellow Jeepers, he did Not sacrifice anything! He's still well ahead of the game! Diesel will outrun, outpull, outclime and out MPG the 3.6. (Overall out perform)

Did they put the first eco-diesel in the Wrangler?
No. But this 2nd iteration is starting to looking mighty familiar already.

I love Jeeps; the Italians know better than most how to make refined engines that extract the most power. But unfortunately, their track record building a bullet-proof motor is right there with the Chinese...

Best of luck for a quick turnaround OP. If they had the diesel option in 2019, I would have bought one myself. What kind of trailer is that?

Many a 12V Cummins died to the Killer Dowel Pin. I tabbed mine. Since that 12V was the first Gen version of the 5.9 and had some cataclysmic failures should we not buy any of the later iterations?

This is mine. Thanks for your concern.

Hey- thanks for passing on a bit of luck to me regarding getting this thing repaired. The trailer shown is detailed in the overlanding thread on this site. It’s unique and one of only 6 made in the ‘90s. It’s perfect for what we do and only weighs in at 1700 pounds fully loaded.

Great Attitude! Would love to know the source for those Aluminum Trail boxes you have in the foreground....
Howdy- The aluminum boxes were purchased about 15 years ago from Equip-1. Alu-box.com. They are spendy but water and dust tight and lockable. I have 2 that house my hold my cook partner propane 2 burner and other things designated “The kitchen box” while the other is designated ”the food box”. They have served me well over thousands of miles of overland camping.

Wrote my experiences with the Jeep Eco Diesels. Can find them here:

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/overheating.59720/post-1281296

I learned from previous experiences to watch the track record of the Jeep Engines before jumping into them. Between the 4 different engines I have owned in Jeeps, they rank best to worst:

1. V8 Hemi - 2017 Jeep GC Overland (86K miles, Sold, Solid, No issues, wanted a JLUR :))
2. v6 Pentastar - 2013 Jeep Wrangler JKUR (75K miles, Still Own, not one issue, Solid), 2012 Jeep GC Unlimited (66K mile, Sold, not enough power for Colorado hills, but solid, no issues), 2018 JLUR (22K miles, Still Own, No issues, Solid)
3. v6 EcoDiesel - 2014 Jeep GC Unlimited (92K miles, Sold, Tons of issues, See link above)

** Sorry no experience with the i4 2.0 Turbo. Felt uneasy with my experience with Jeep and Turbos so I went with V6 Pentastar in the JLUR, plus I wanted a Manual. ;)

I doubt anyone outside FCA has the exact figures. But one can get a sense by how long each motor has been on the market vs how long the issues started to appear on the Internet.

The Pentastar V6 was plagued by cylinder head issues during the first 6 months after it launched in 2012, but FCA acted fast and resolved the issue quickly. Since then, posts of people having issues with the V6 have become rare.

The number of issues now popping up on the Wrangler/Gladiator forums seems high given that the motor launched only a few months ago.

fantastic example of confirmation bias.
how long have the Jeep gen 3 ecodiesels been out?

Ha Ha! We have 4 TV's in the RV and they've never been turned on. It's the standard option and you can't buy a high-end RV without them.
4 TVs! I dont even have one in my house. How can you fit 4 TVs in an RV?

Saw a toy hauler at an RV show that had 6 TV's. Our Bigfoot has all the wiring and mount for a flatscreen in the cabover but we, like you, rarely watch TV. We have one at home but no antenna or cable. We use it as a slave to the laptop to stream movies occasionally.

We used to have a zillion channels but once we started doing 6-7 month mega road trips every other year we realized how much more productive life is without channel surfing.
