An intelligent human of any persuasion has got to know that safety glass, seat belts, air bags answer pollution?!? are not government regulations.
Um, seat belts started as a Federal law... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seat_belt_laws_in_the_United_States
Same thing for recall laws.

The problem is too much of the wrong regulations, not the existence of any regulation at all.

I would very much agree that the MPG regs need to go, I want to prioritize safety. If someone else wants fuel efficiency, they can buy a Prius, and many do.

Jeep Gladiator video shows rear seat back being lowered by pulling a strap--wonder why this was not also included in the 2019 JL.
Maybe this is why it is in the Gladiator and they are just too cheap to change the JL.

Yes... MPG regs are a double edged sword, perhaps good for the environment, but also making vehicles less safe.

My point I was trying to make was that the interiors of cars were sturdier when CAFE standards were not so aggressive. I am no more of a fan of air pollution than anyone else, and of course I like to know Iā€™ll walk away from most car accidents because of safety features that would never be available if it wasnā€™t for the creative thinking of inventors and engineers, many of whom were employees of auto manufacturers and precisely zero who were employees of government.

The modern seat belt was developed by a well known employee of Volvo, for example. But the patent for the first crude seat belt was filed by an American inventor in the late 1800s, I believe.

Iā€™m sure just about all of us would wear our seatbelt regardless of whether or not the government fined us for not wearing it. But.. I say if youā€™re stupid enough to not wear it the world probably wonā€™t miss you too much. But things inside a car that break because theyā€™re made cheaply out of lightweight materials are, at least in part, there because auto manufacturers are obsessed with losing weight to improve fuel economy. Not the only reason, just part of the reason.

I donā€™t have a problem with recall laws but itā€™s important that we all know that a good bit of the ever-rising cost weā€™re paying for vehicles is because of many recalls that are of little benefit to us. Once government get involved, prices to consumers go up, not down (sometimes only on the folks who can actually afford to pay them). If youā€™re self employed you well know what happened to your health care premiums several years back when Obamacare went live.

This happened to me too! Brought in the Jeep to have it checked the Thursday before Christmas, still waiting for the part to arrive at the dealer...
Happened to me too. I couldn't believe it. I closed my center console and the latch broke and fell apart. Brought it to my dealer and they ordered a brand new console (upper half). The part was delivered in a few days, and they installed it in a couple of hours -- all under warranty. The whole experience was relatively painless, but the fact that it broke, in this day and age, really shocked me (for a brand new 2019 vehicle).

Hmm interesting that you got yours in a few days. I probably should call up the dealer and see what's up.

EDIT: Just called, they said they're not expecting it to arrive until March......

My handle didn't break, but the dealer tech flipped my drivers seat forward and it wouldn't return! (while trying to upload ORP update - long story)
It's been in the shop for 10 days waiting on seat rails...
Just glad it didn't happen away from the dealer or it would have been on a flatbed!

My center console latch also broke 4 days after getting my new JLUR. ... Based on all your experience, Iā€™m going to call the dealer before I bring it in.

FCA also sliced the washer fluid hose to the back window under the drivers seat. It was fun to find all the washer fluid soaked in the carpet after I used the washer fluid for the first time. I removed the panel and it looks like someone cut the tube with a knife along the length of the tube. Not what I expected to deal with on the first day of a new car.

I have a friend who has a 2014 Patriot and it's a strap as well. Seems to me it's a better solution...

??!!! March? What? Wow. Just to be clear, my dealer replaced the entire upper clam shell half of the center console (not just the latch mechanism).

As for the rear seatback latch, I'm hoping that a third party comes up with a strap solution somehow. I'll gladly pay for that before mine breaks...

Well, dealer fixed it. Took it in yesterday, they ordered the part, it came in today and took 3 hours and it's fixed... now I have to remember to be gentle...very very gentle. It's a Jeep after all!

I contacted JeepCares on here to see if they could expedite it. They asked for the order number so I had to call the dealer. When I explained to the dealer that I needed the order number for a Jeep specialist, all of sudden he said the part will arrive on January 25th. Not sure how it went from March to January 25th but I'm not complaining. Let's see if it'll actually arrive.
