3.6L Petrol engine. Petrol light came on, wife drove home a short way and parked on slight decline on driveway and she wouldn’t start with a “low petrol” displayed on the dash.

Put 20L fuel in and tried to start - buzz, click nothing. Tried to prime by hitting the button without the brake pedal on a number of times and nothing. Leave it on 10 minutes she says - did that, not good.

After trying to start again, the brake pedal is hard, engine light on and it was saying car is not in park so it wouldn’t let me turn it off.

Had to disconnect the battery and put it on charge overnight, but I understand there may be air in the fuel lines. I can’t find anything online about the location of the Schrader valve for the JL.

We will call the roadside this morning, but any hints on where the valve is? And has anyone had this issue?

Not familiar with the schrader valve in the fuel system. The fuel lines should self-purge of any air when cranking.

In the states, we have a two battery system in the JL. The main battery is obvious. But the small auxiliary battery is mounted under the fuse panel (power distribution center). This small battery is sometimes the crux of electrical gremlins.

Interesting, thanks for that :) I would give it a go if I weren’t pregnant. It gets in the way of everything

If the battery is bad and your Jeep has the rwo batteries, make sure to change both. Roadside should be able to jump you just fine, but if you just replace the large battery it will die shortly as the smaller one will drain it.

To know whether you have the two batteries - do you know if you have the E-Torque with the 3.6? The E-Torque does not have the smaller battery, while the regular 3.6 (like mine) does have this porrly engineered system.

No E-torque for me..

But they think perhaps it didn’t engage itself into Park properly and that it indeed wasn’t fuel. They will be here soon - will report back.

And thanks :) great until you need to lean your short self into a bonnet and raising it is just always a pain haha

Nope again - was the battery, thanks all :) much appreciated

roadside got it started and it started dying straight away - off she goes

Yeah, all the old AMC engines did. 4.0 etc. I was just counting chrysler engines. Not sure why they went away with them for the 3.6, actually. I guess they use a plastic flexible fuel line at the rail rather than a metal one, so disconnecting it for testing is definitely easier.

If anyone here has disconnected the old metal on metal style with the special tool you know what I mean
