THANKS!.

Interesting - that must be the sidewall vs the tread line. 255/70R18 and 18X7.5 for stock wheel with 44.45mm offset. TireRack says OEM tire is 10.2 section width and 7.6 tread width so there's maybe a 1.3 inch bulge.

Anything wider (taller) on stock wheels is gonna stick out half the extra width of the wider tire like a 275 or a 285 over a 255. There will be added sidewall bulge (which is fine) wider than tread line for 275 or 285 plus.

So, I'd guess that - just an example - a Rubicon takeoff at 17X7.5 with 44.45mm offset with a 285/70R17 has a section width of 11.5 inches and tread with of 9.3 inches (I used K02 specs) puts the rear tire sidewall about .6 inches outside the rear fender and the tread is basically still tucked.

I know there is thread on Sahara and Rubi takeoffs, but my interest is Sahara stock wheel with 285+ tire. Maybe a tad less sidewall bulge due to wheel diameter (less sidewall) but probably tucked just right at the fender edge - on the rears anyway.

Thanks JIMBO. Based on rimsntires.com vs stock indicates your tires will stick out 2.8" more than stock so 2.5" is pretty much spot on.

So, that supports that the stock 255/70R18 tire on stock wheel is close to right on the edge or maybe .3 inch tucked depending if you measure/eyeball from sidewall or tread.

Close enough for Jeepin'

Fixing stupid....
I have Sahara 4dr with rubi takeoff wheels with Falken AT3W in 285/75R17, and the tires are dead even with the edge of the fenders in back.
