So, I know this is a Sahara forum, and I have a Rubicon, but I was looking for some opinions. I have a Sting Gray Rubicon, and I love the red accents. I even installed red leather! But the look of the WHOLE insert being painted red is just a bit too much for me (no offense). Would you all make fun of me if I only paint two slots red? haha I cropped a photo so you can see what I mean.

It looks like it is missing a tooth... Sorry, that's the first thing that came to my mind.

Some brilliant inspiration from this thread. Shouts to @outlanderbz, @halw9000, @person500 @LouNYC for the ideas.

The silver was trim was gaudy on the crystal granite metallic. PlastiDip'd the grille matte black, and did the inserts anthracite grey and matched the fog light trim in the same colour. Much more toned down now.

So I have a dumb question... sorry. I have a Sahara and I reached the part of removing the mesh inserts, and I’m trying to get the silver trim off... how do you pull it all off the actual grille now? I’m so close. I’m worried about snapping tabs :(. Anyone have any pics???

YouTube has great videos, step by step. The mesh grill should come off easily.
Yeah I searched, but they always have sports or sport s grilles with no trim insert. I eventually figured it out though... stupid black metal clips were the ones I had to pry loose.

I was able to get the fog light bezels out as well with out removing the whole bumper cover. Each one took about 10 min. Remove the first 3 or 4 nylon retaining clips behind the tires. Peel back the plastic cover and remove the first small metric screw in the middle. You will notice the bezel loosen a bit. You will need a plastic automotive pry tool to free the clips from the front to avoid scratching it. If your replacing them with new ones you will have to transfer over the metal insert the small metric screw was attached to. It comes out fairly easy pinching the clips from the back side. Another member posted pictures in a different thread.

There were a lot more clips on the grill than I anticipated but still pretty easy. Very happy with the blacked out look from silver.

Here is my result:
Ordered and installed non painted parts + red tow hooks.

I think it changed the whole look, really happy with it!

Thank you for the links. How difficult was it from a scale of 1 to 10? What special tools will I need for this install? Thanks in advance.

Just plastidipped my grille inserts and bumper inserts, really like the look now and will see how long the dip lasts, may have to paint it later.

The hardest part was to remove the whole front bumper to change the hooks. Grill inserts - I would say 20-30min maximum (scale 5) and bumper was 8 =)

Had to ask a friend of mine to help me in his shop, but there are a lot in video tutorials on youtube how to remove the bumper and grill.

Hope it helps!
