Just completed a trip from Charleston, SC to Atlanta, GA in my JLU Sahara.

3.6
M/T
Premium soft top

Averaged 24 mpg on the nose at a 65 mph average. Better than I was expecting, considering that it was loaded to the gills with gear, my wife, carseat, and 2 year old. Just me and a suitcase would probably get 25-26. I think the M/T helped... I did not use cruise control for much of it, because the drive down I-20 is very hilly. It would struggle to maintain 65 mph on an incline in 5th gear, and mpg would suffer as a result, so I had to go into 4th at about 2500 RPMs for those climbs.

Overall, it was obviously more work to accomplish, but as long as you can stomach 65 mph, along with some more shifting and less cruise control, good gas mileage can be had. My wife's 4runner and my dad's highlander get approximately 24-26 on similar drives in similar conditions. Oh yea - and it was pissing rain most of the way.

I am averaging between 15 and 16 mpg. Makes me want to cry a little. I live in California, so highway for me is 75mph in the Wrangler (80 and occasionally 85 in my other car, but the Wrangler is no fun past 75). I can be a bit heavy on the gas pedal at times, but trying to drive in a more measured way. But still... better not look at the gas mileage. The dash screen for it should just read “Don’t you worry about the gas mileage in the Wrangler!” with no discernible numbers.

I was averaging 13-15 MPG during most of JAN-MAR but maybe because of the cold or because it needed to be broken in. I am no averaging 16-18 MPG. Mostly city and some high-way.

I'm going with the same setup in my Sahara. How is the wind noise on the highway wth the premium soft top? We are planning on ordering soft top only. Thanks!

Daily drive with our 4 door Sahara automatic yields about 22.3 mpg. I'm guessing the lower MPG has more to do with acceleration from a stop than anything. We aren't overly aggressive taking off.

I get about 18-18.5 in rush hour traffic. Been that way for most of the time I’ve had it (6k miles). If you are getting 13- something is not right. Maybe live somewhere other than on top of a snow covered mountain with the only entrance guarded by gas eating snakes.

they are getting better, thankfully!!! where you drive + how you drive makes a difference as well as weather conditions. add big heavy wheels + tyres + your mpg's will tank + you will be slower unless you regear $$$$
