Performance gains from intakes are relatively small, regardless of the location. That being said, this item is meant for a specific target audience and is not performance oriented.

It looks like it. If you look at a listing for the high mount only it comes with a piece that blocks the side vent to make the only intake come from the top. Looks like it's just 4 screws to remove vent and add the blocked plate and high mount
