The steps on the Sahara are nice, but they are not for everyone. I just got my hands on a set of take-off Rubicon rock rails.
The removal and installation was super easy. If you are new to wrenching on your rig, this would be a great intro.
The first step is to gather the required tools. For this project, you will need a 10mm socket, 13mm socket, a six-inch extension, and a ratchet.
Next, crawl under the side of your Jeep and find the three attachment brackets. Each bracket has two nuts and a bolt. Remove the two nuts with the 10mm socket. The bolt will need the 13mm socket and six inch extension. You don’t need to support the steps/rails as they will hang on their own.
There is the second nut not seen, but just on the other side of the bracket.
After you set all six nuts and three bolts aside, pull the step/rail straight out, then rotate it up to completely remove it. Installation is opposite of removal. Note that the steps/rails are side specific, but don’t worry, they don’t easily bolt on backwards.
Now for any of y’all that might be watching the weight of your rig, going from steps to RubiRails is about thirty more pounds.
Both RubiRails... about fifty-five pounds.
Both Sahara side steps... about twenty-five pounds.
Before and after...
