So the install was fairly simple. For the end-caps I ended up cutting off the rubicon ones and bolting them on to the Sahara ones. The alignment is not 100% but pretty good. I’m sure if someone made a braket to bolt up to the outside of the end-caps it would make the fit little more aligned.

I have heard others say that they had issue with wiring rear bumper lights from Sahara JL Unlimited to new steel rear bumper. Did you have this issue? If so how did you resolve? Do you have any other details you can share on converting the Sahara JL Unlimited end caps to fit the steel bumper? Was it worth the trouble? Thank you

I didn’t not have any problems wiring up the Oracle reverse lights. I ran the wiring up to the twilight area, where the driver side went to the driver side taillight and passenger side went to the the passenger taillight.

As for the end caps I’m pretty happy with that I did, fitment is not 100% perfect but it’s close.

So went through the install over the weekend. Was quite involved as a diy because I had to transfer the back up sensors from my plastic Sahara bumper. Luckily the person that sold me the steel bumper retained every bolt and sensor brackets. I did use the Sahara end caps using the brackets I made in previous thread.

Here are the results (sorry car is a bit dirty). The end caps fit pretty well. Everything else wasn't bad, but did have to drill 1 hole on the metal brackets on each side. Some of the members mentioned the end caps is flimsy which I agree. But after putting on the mopar mudflats, it actually secured the end cap to the inner plastic liner much more and I feel much more confident it can take some abuse.

I am installing the rear steel bumper on my sport s. Is there any mounting hardware I need that may not come with it, or am I able to reuse the hardware off my sport s?

There will be the mounting brackets that you will need to retain from the sport and move it over to the steel bumper. Obviously the end caps are different and will need to be modified to fit the sports end caps to the steel bumper. Also if you have parking sensors, that will have to be transferred as well. Besides that, there shouldn't be anything additional.

What endcaps? My bumper now is one solid molded piece.

The end caps that bridge the rear bumper to the rear side fender flares. Your sports fenders will not match the end caps that comes on the rear steel bumper because they fit with the Rubicon flares. This thread has all the information on it.

Gotcha, I see what you mean. I actually installed rubi fenders so should be no issues. Thank you for the info though.

This looks amazing. Do you happen to have a template you can share? Just thought I'd ask! I'd gladly buy a set from you if you'd sell one!

Sorry bro I don't have a template. I just traced the pattern based on the Rubicon end caps and just drew the shape with pen and paper. No rocket science really and can easily replicated. I didnt kept those paper pattern I drew unfortunately.

Did a bracket in wood this am to test my concept. The goal was to re-use the Sahara end cap instead of the one provided with the steel bumper. Worked fine!

Used a plastic cutting board for the final bracket material as its flexible and can obviously handle water very well. Result is great!

Note: You will have to drill a hole in the metal bracket to support the plastic piece that is being used as the finition.

My Sahara endcap looks slightly different than yours. Without the insert in it it is too short to have a perfect line up. I am considering cutting at least a 3 inch off the rubi endcap and use that. If I don’t do it right I would have to buy more.

For those looking to do this project (non rubi with real steel bumper), looks like Aliexpress now sells this non rubi style end cap for the steel bumper. I ordered it to give it a try. Will post updated once it's on the jeep.
