The stock wheels have a lot of black on them as well no doubt they’ll be available. I agree with others that said they’re just pushing these to get rid of them.

I'd like some sensible chrome wheels, but yeah, it's 2019, people aren't going for that. xD

Everything goes in cycles , chrome will be back. Black wheels were popular many years ago then went out of style, that will happen again.

While we'll never find out the true story, it is entirely possible that there was a production shortage/overage on wheels, and the week or so Rubicons were unavailable without the upgraded wheels was all they needed to recover from it. After all if a dealer is going through making his allotments we have all seen they basically close their eyes and just randomly choose options for the vehicles on the lot. :)

I think we learned two things today;
1. We have way too much time on our hands
2. Not to jump to conclusions based on something someone from a dealer said.

Or our raising pitchforks caused them to change their minds! That’s also possible XD
Whatever the reason, they didn’t get my money until they fixed it.... but they have it now. The real waiting begins...

Plenty of people in this thread have accepted the idea that this is the result of a shortage of the standard wheels.
No one here has suggested it was a cash grab or any other conspiracy.
People are upset because they are paying more for something that would appear to cost the same for Jeep to produce. Most people seem to have preferred the standard wheels, but seem to be willing to accept the “upgrades”. They are not so excited about paying $1k for wheels they do not prefer.
A lot of wheels are made in China the tariff war might be causing this issue at the moment !
