I’m sitting at the dealership right now and still no luck. Also, the issue with the AEK and ALP together still remains...

They “ can’t charge you for something you are not asking for...... especially when they are forcing you to purchase an upgrade you do not want!
As messed up as it is, they're not forcing us to buy a Rubicon. It's like going to an Apple store on launch day wanting to buy a green iphone, but they only have red ones that cost $100 more, so if you want that green one you have to wait. Or buy a red one.

Except in Apple's case they'd tell you that the green iphones were out of stock, and they'd probably give you a rough idea when they will have more. FCA doesn't know a thing about customer service. :)

I just say with a dealer who could NOT build a rubicon with the normal wheels. The $995 wheel “upgrade” needed to be selected.

I’ll try again next Monday.

Similar thing happened to me when ordering my'19, but it was with color. One week,Punk'n was listed as not available. I checked again 2 weeks later and I was able to order. Someimtes there is shenanigans in the dealer order system that even they have no idea why- FCA doesn't tell anyone anything when it comes to this kind of stuff. I hate to add to a silly narrative like that but in this case, that's all I can figure out. I'd love an explanation, but i'm pretty sure most of that kind of stuff is considered "trade secrets"

Unfortunately, they can and they will. While they can force you to purchase the unwanted "upgrade", they can't force you to buy the Jeep. You can always say NO. It's a conscious decision you have to make. In my case, the decision was already made about getting a MY20 Rubicon, so when the system refused to order the stock wheels, I had no choice but to order it the way it would let me.

I already knew that I was going to change the wheels and tires out anyways, so this made it a little easier to accept. However, if I were planning on only running stock, things might have went down differently.

I know the pitch forks and conspiracy theories are already flying but isn’t the simpler explanation that there is a supply issue with the standard Rubicon wheels? If so, wouldn’t it make sense to still allow orders with the other wheels that are available?

What conspiracy theory do you have for them not allowing ALP and AEK to be ordered together?

I don't see a conspiracy theory, I see shitty customer service that can't be assed to give us an ETA.

You accept paying more for something you don't want? I don't see your logic, unless you've already arranged with the dealer to buy/swap...

Plenty of people in this thread have accepted the idea that this is the result of a shortage of the standard wheels.
No one here has suggested it was a cash grab or any other conspiracy.
People are upset because they are paying more for something that would appear to cost the same for Jeep to produce. Most people seem to have preferred the standard wheels, but seem to be willing to accept the “upgrades”. They are not so excited about paying $1k for wheels they do not prefer.

It amazes me how easily people just swallow the crap they are fed. Why order it if it’s not what you want and pay more to top it off?

Auto manufacturers are some of the worst when it comes to truly caring about the customer and providing them with good service and real answers to issues they have.

Exactly. To me, and most, it’s not an “upgrade” at all. It’s disappointing because I think Jeep, as a whole, is much more in tune with its customers than most. But, this just stinks of a situation where some Italian guy at FCA who’s never seen a Wrangler is setting the price of the “upgrade” and then making the decision to force it on people whether they like it or not to either get rid of overstock or maybe they are truely out of the standard wheel. I’m sure this kind of stuff happens to dealers all the time when they order their stock. It’s still frustrating though. And no transparency or response from Jeep on the issue. Frustrating.
