Hi guys. My 2020 JLUR is making a chirping sound from the left side of the car. From in the drivers seat it sounds like front left, but could be rear.

The sound presents itself when going over bumps at all speeds below 50mph. If I hit a bump in the road: chirp. Drive on a dirt road: chirps in time with the bumps of the road. Drive with the left tires on a rumble strip: rapid chirping in time with the rumble strip. Its not rotational, the speed reflects the bump frequency, not the speed of the car.

This Jeep has been at the dealership 4 times for a total of 6 days now. The service department is very helpful, but canā€™t find it. They have replaced all sorts of things not suspension related and no luck. Today they tried to give the car back and I declined. They said the only sound they could find in the suspension is the tie rod pin... which is supposed to be loose and there is nothing they can do about it.

Do any of you guys and gals have thoughts?

Sorry donā€™t have an answer for you but I would try to isolate the sound to front/rear and right/left by having someone sit in the back seat or walk/jog along outside while itā€™s being driven. From your description definitely sounds suspension related or could be front knuckle moving ever so slightly due to ball joint nuts not being torqued to spec. I suppose it could be body related also. Really need to try and isolate the sound whether coming from wheel area or higher in the frame/body panels.

Hope it gets solved

thanks for the advice. I have taken my service advisor and a tech out. The only thing they will commit to is left side, understandably not wanting to commit to a problem before they are sure. Itā€™s absolutely low, and absolutely left side. To me it sounds like front left wheel area.

I would ask them to make certain all suspension and steering components are torqued to spec. Seems many JLs roll off the assembly line with bolts/nuts not torqued properly.

Could be a shock. Could be the coil spring is rubbing somewhere. So many things.

Maybe others will chime in.

My 2019 JLU Moab is doing the same thing. It is driving me insane! Dealer has said twice they canā€™t find it. They drove with me and heard it, but can not figure out the issue. Everything has been tightened and lined that can be. It happened over every bump at almost all speeds. I just watched a video of someone who discovered it was the exhaust rubbing against a clamp and the heat shield. Iā€™m literally heading to the garage to see if that is the issue. Please let me know if you have any success and I will do the same! Crossing my fingers before I lose my mind.

oh cool. I have mine back. Dealer acknowledged the problem, but couldnā€™t find it. Waiting for the traveling FCA rep to come to town, then it goes back in.

Could you send a link to the video? Have any luck on your MOAB?

Watching this thread with interest, I have the same sound but from the right side. I went underneath looking for anything loose, can't find anything loose or make it chirp unless it's moving/driving. My next step is to walk along side it with someone else driving and try to pinpoint the source.

2019 JLU Sport S here doing the same thing. I thought it was a loose screw maybe under my seat? Then I thought maybe it had something to do with my installation of the soft top (since I noticed it more with the soft top on.) Now I'm thinking it's the issue you guys have posted about.

Same thing - 2020 Rubicon Recon. It's not the soft top as I have the Sky One Touch. Mine's the left front and it doesn't do it over larger/longer duration bumps (eg. a speed bump), but a sudden and short duration bump (rumble strip for instance) it chirps like a canary.

HEY... I thought I was alone in this. I have a 2019 MOAB and its doing this. I have found that it seems to be coming from the passenger seat. When my wife rode with me she said she felt it in the seat. So I had her drive and then over bumps and around turns the metallic sound would happen. I then was able to move my seat while the Jeep was parked and make the same sounds from the seat. I then went into the back seat and the driver seat and could not make it happen again.

I called my dealership and have an appt on Friday to have them look this over and see what is happening. I would like to use this thread as well for reference. @JeepCares may want to follow this as well.

If possible can you all do these same sort of tests and see if its the same thing??

Update: I just had my JLUR in for the FCA Field Engineer to take a look at. He had the dealership techs remove, grease, and reinstall the brake backing plates on both front wheels as well as re-torque the axle nut. And the sound was gone! For 15 miles....

Now the chirp is back and coming from BOTH sides, not just driver. So after 4 trips to the dealer totaling about 10 days, my brand new 20 JLUR has only gotten worse. I called the service manager, who is trying to get in touch with the FCA Field Engineer. To my dealerships credit, they are trying, but even the FCA rep hasn't been able to fix it. I love this jeep, but I'm at the point where I am googling my lemon law rights...

Thanks for chiming in here @JeepCares . I'm sending you guys a private message.

This Jeep has 9000 miles on it and the chirp occurs without any braking. Iā€™d be impressed if any brake hardware were worn at this point.
