Was trying to troubleshoot some balljoint clicking/popping noises, when I found this clapping noise while turning the driver's side wheel by hand while on jack stands. Axle is a Rubicon CV (full time 4WD option) with 7,000 miles.

Is this normal? Only driver's side. Passenger's side is quiet.

No, it doesn't sound normal to me, but without being there I'm unsure of what to suggest it is.

Have you had any luck with further troubleshooting?

No. I'm focusing on the ball joints pops and clicks, before I tackle the rotational noises. Jeep drives/steers perfectly. I'm hesitant to do too much.

Why not take it to the dealer and let the warranty handle it?
That is the next step. I took it once. I mentioned two problems: ball joint noises and this rotational bearing noise. They tightened the ball joints and returned the vehicle.

I learned with this dealer you can only report one issue at a time, as they seem to only work on the first thing.

you paid for a new truck so you wouldn’t have the headache of figuring out what’s wrong with it.

here’s what to do:
1) take video of the issue
2) take the truck to dealer and let them figure it out. if it’s serious make them give you a rental.

good luck and keep us updated on what it is

Not quite that simple with modified Jeeps. Need to walk a fine line of dealer blaming the issue on the mods.

Did you ever figure out what this was?
Sadly no. Letting it ride for now. Doesn't seem to be getting any worse or creating any other problems.

I got the same noise. It was bad after not driving for a week and after 45 minutes of driving it went away but comes back quietly and intermittently. The video is from its worst.

Any idea what it is? Hub Bearings?
