Does Adams replace the yoke on the axle? My front is currently the 1310 setup from Metalcloak. I just received the JE Reel 1350 rear shaft and it also replaces the axle yoke, so I had to get a beam style in/lb torque wrench with a dial to not over torque the pinion nut. I'll be swapping the front out for a matching JE Reel as soon as it shows up.

Yes. New yolks are included at both ends for the Adams 1350 rear driveshaft. The front Adams just replaces the transfer case yolk. I bought the same tool when I replaced the pinion seal a few months back, but I contacted Adams and they told me to torque the pinion nut to 160 foot/lbs, so I did. I hope that helps.

That's when I learned about the crush sleeve on the pinion shaft and the importance of checking the factory torque before removing that yoke, so it can be replicated. The t-case yoke gets the 160ft/lbs, but one of the videos showed the axle yoke only needing about 45ft/lbs and loctite, hence the small torque wrench.

Unless you have an aftermarket gear set that replaced the crush sleeve with a solid bushing?

I may be wrong, but I believe that is rotational torque. I cant see the pinion nut being 45 foot/lbs
Yes, you dont want to go pass the crush sleeve, but I was assured that 160 ft/lb will not.

Which videos did you watch Mike? I saw a few too and I was confused so I called Adams. They said 160 foot/lbs. Maybe ask ChevyMitchell. LOL

The 1st one off the top of my head is from he who shall not be named, aka ponytail boy. He had the rear axle on Jack stands and only tightened the pinion nut to the rotational torque that you mentioned. He brought the t-case side up to 160ft/lb, and if memory serves, he went on to mentioning that the axle side would take that torque if the crush sleeve was deleted. Over torquing that crush sleeve is likely to cause premature wear of the pinion bearing.

Yeah, I don't think my history extends long enough to do that myself. It's been over a week. I still don't see the appeal of the high wasted bathing suits. I'm hip hugger all the way.

You can watch the whole video, but about 13:45 on this video, he said the same thing Adams told me. In my opinion, much easier than trying to get between 45 and 50 sq in lbs on rotational torque.
I saw "ponytail's" video too. I dont track on some of his videos. He say stuff like "I like to add an extra turn after torque" Like he knows better. He said it on his video about rotational torque too. "I'd like to add a extra 5lbs" LOL
I put the rtv on the splines and Loctite on the nut threads to get an accurate torque reading.

The guy in this video stated that he got a false reading with his rotational torque and he called Adams and they had him tighten the nut. Watch at about 10:45 and then at 13:35.

Oh yeah, you just reminded me of the "what the hell did he just say" moments that sprinkle his videos.

I'll have to give those videos another spin. It's possible that this summers fashion trend has written over some equally important info in my melon.

They sell chromoly shafts for the front too if RCVs are not an option. (my RCVs are on backorder and I wont see them for about a month) I ordered the knuckles from Poly Performance. I got a 10% discount, they dont charge sales tax or delivery. Aren't trusses more for jumping and Baja racing? LOL

I am still waiting on my RCV axles, got everything else to get the front end done. A truss on the front is to protect the FAD which is a weak point on axle.

You definitely do not torque the pinion nut to 160. It has to be within a very narrow window to have the proper pinion preload. You got bad advice. The only way to measure the preload properly is to pull the diff and axles.

I may not have explained myself clearly. My re-gear was done about two years ago and I just added the Adams driveshafts about a month ago. I did not want go pass the the preload created by the crush sleeve as my gears are running great. I watched a few videos where folks using rotational torque may be getting false readings as there may be some preload even when the pinion nut is removed or not tightened. So what I was told is 160lb of ft/lbs on the pinion nut is not enough force to crush the sleeve any further.
It could be all BS and I am burning up my pinion bearings. ? I will be driving my Jeep 2 hours and wheeling on the 23rd. I'll definitely post it if has.

Yeah I don’t know about that. I would want to be ultra sure that the force on those pinion bearings was exactly right. The spherical tail bearing on the 220 axle is extremely sensitive to over-torquing.
