Just purchased the Bushwacker 14085 TrailArmor rocker panel/sill plate covers for my new Jeep. After I purchased, I realized there might be a design flaw; they have a stip of auto tape above and below for adhesion, but the ends are open to allow particulate to slip in behind.

My concern, as I live in Upstate NY (salt capital of the world), is that dust and road salt will be able to track in between the rocker panel and cover, thus potentially ruin the very paint I am trying to protect. Any thoughts on best prep for install?

I have these and noticed the same. I put a bead of silicone on the open ends to seal them up. I left the gaps in the bottom open so any condensate or otherwise accumulated moisture can still escape.
