How well do the Ace Sliders work as a step? I am short.
They work pretty good, they are solid. They mount on 3 big bolts (which I’ve also siliconed and foamed).
My GF as well as my sister and co-workers use them all the time as passengers or when they borrow it. I’m over 6ft and don’t need them for access, but I use them for lifting & securing temporary loads to the roof, and sometimes checking/mucking around with the soft top, and I weigh ~250 (depending on beer consumption ;)) and have never had any movement/noise/etc from them.

I don’t jump up & down on them, but they are solid enough for me to stand on both feet and loft 100lbs of cable onto the roof and stay there for a minute or two to secure it (sometimes I use the door ledge depending on placement of gear, etc). I would think a few brief seconds of partial load while using as a step would be nothing, even over many uses.

There are definitely wider & better steps, but this is a great combo of actual usable rock rail & step, and easy install & removal.

Yeah, I definitely want something that works as a functional rock rail/slider but also doubles as a useful step.

Yep, and being angled very very slightly up (unlike the others pictured above) they don’t tend to catch on trail features, which matters a lot to me.

Also, after my t-bone accident, I consider them as mild additional protection there too, adding another coupla inches/newtons of crumple zone.

Do you lose much clearance with them?

Yeah, just over an inch, but it’s outside clearance, so not the lowest point underneath and in-line with the tires thar help them up and over stuff, not in the areas more likely to be affected, although you can definitely impact them depending on your situation. Haven’t really increased bangs to my knowledge, but definitely scrape on stuff that would’ve scraped along the stock Rubi-rails otherwsie, and I would prefer these take the damage, so when I trade in the JKU then the Rubi rails look mall-crawler fresh. I repaint the ACE rails with left over high temperature BBQ flat black paint that I also use on the muffler.

So I don’t mind scratches and rock chips from the occasional bottoming-out, more concerned about getting caught on stuff or doing unnecessary trail damage, where I think the design of the ACE rails tend to deflect a lot of that and keep you going. Would prefer if the ends were more hull-like than flat circles, but they are OK.

@The Great Grape Ape Thank you for the detailed input, very much appreciated! I like that they go over the current JL Rubi rails a lot. I really need a “step” for the wife (any myself). These are looking more and more like the ones I’m going to order.

@wired if you can post pics and review on your JL and how functional they are as a step that would awesome!

Yeah, I'm leaning on the ACE sliders too, but I still want to see the Mopar premium ones in person before deciding.

Just ordered these today. Keep in mind, these aren't made for rock crawling. 02/09, they told me via email that they would be shipping in 7-10 days so they should be shipping anyday now. Will update once I receive them. Probably won't install them til I get the Mopar lift and my tires/wheels. Gonna make one big trip and install everything sometime in March. Hopefully will have bumpers and lights also by then.

The only thing on all rock sliders is if you have dogs theycan getthere legs stuck in the space between the inner and outer tube I suggest you weld or have a plate put on over the sapce.

Love to see pics of these from the side after you get them installed. I had them on my 17 JK and liked the quality of them. They don't fit with the rubi rails, but no squeaks or rattles. I didn't like the look on my JK because they hung down a couple of inches and exposed the pinch seam and I thought that looked like a$$. Just looked unfinished. From your photo it looks like these are higher to cover the pinch seam. My wife and 8 year old needed them with stock 32's and I used them when screwing with the tops. They were very solid steps.

My Son has a 2014 JK 2dr with the Mopar Rock Rail and Ace slider combo. I installed both on his JK.

Again, they both (Rails and Ace Sliders) can be installed together. Rock Rails hide the pinch seam and look great with the Ace Sliders.

I’m currently leaning towards the ACE Engineering Rock Sliders. Anyone have any experience with these?

Any other rock sliders/side steps out there?
I'm also leaning towards the Ace. Really like the look and all the reviews I've read are very positive. I have a Rubicon on order and like the fact they can be used with existing stock rails, you can never have to much protection in my book. They'll be at the top of my list when my Wrangler comes in. Here's a few picks of the Ace Rock Sliders, nice clean look IMO.
