We left NC for Fargo, ND on the 08/10, and went west to Miles City, MT from there. Dropped south to Rapid City, SD then back to Sioux City. From there we went south to Miami, OK for a little westward ride on Route 66 to visit some friends that own the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari, NM, then returned to NC on I-40.

The Sahara 3.6L preformed flawlessly, and returned impressive mpgs. The high mark for the mpg's was 25.6, and the low was 21.3. The JL was surprisingly comfortable the entire trip.

There was one little glitch, and one aggravating annoyance. The glitch was the HVAC failed to start one day, but turning it off for a minute then starting it back up fixed that. Never did that again. The annoyance is the active cruise. Overall the ACC was fine when cruising on long little traveled interstates, but when you got into traffic (I-40 for ex) the thing became stupid. When passing it wanted to return to the selected speed to quickly causing the engine to rev very high to get us there, and if someone cut to close in front of you the dang thing would throw the anchor out to open the chosen distance between the us, and the car that cut in front. If someone was close behind you it could get dicey. I just shut the damn then off, and used the standard cruise in heavier traffic.

We got home yesterday, 08/30. It was a great trip. And if you're thinking of taking your Jeep on a road trip, just do it. You'll have a ball. Anyways, here's a few pics.

The total mileage.

Thanks for your review of the auto cruise control. I had read similar impressions from other JL owners. This makes me feel good that I did not keep my order on hold due to the conflict between the 8” radio and auto cruise!

Where did you serve?

In the town I grew up in here in North Carolina. Started in communications at 18 in 1972, and went on the road at 21. Probably before you were born. ;):)

Oh man, I missed the tropical paradise of Viet Nam by a frog's hair. I was ready to enlist, but Nixon started pulling troops out and I wasn't needed. Little blessings sometimes come from odd places.

I don't think you'll miss anything Juan. The one in my brides Ford is smooth as silk when transitioning, and I wrongly thought the Jeeps would work the same. Dang it.......

Just ask @cosine he knows!
Thanks for your trip details Jim, sounds like a good time, must've caught a rare time when we actually have mud around here lol. And echo those thanking you for your service :)
Glad I bypassed the ACC option (although missing out on the anti-spin option I'm still mad about) :(

We were in Tucumcari for a couple days, and both nights we had one of those NM down pours (them's some ugly clouds brother). We had taken a road named Rama Rd. off the main road (I'm sure you know where those roads go :)). I saw the big patch of mud in the road, but thought it would be just like the ones back home, shallow. But dang bud, y'all's mud is deep. :like:

And, thanks you also Brad. It seems these days less and less people know, or care what our 1st Responder's go through. And, it's worse now than when I was behind the badge. Very sad. We could at the least do the job the way it's supposed to be done. Today, not so much.

Thanks for the trip report . Looks like you had fun and glad to hear the Sahara went so well . I live in Queensland Australia and have been waiting 7 months for my Sahara ( called an Overland here in Oz) to arrive . We have a big trip planned mid next year around the red centre of Australia where the JL will get to prove itself .
