Looking at synthetic rope for a winch, havent decided on what winch yet.
Wondering if anyone knows what, if anything road salt spray and calcium spray do to degrade synthetic rope.
I live in CT and during the winter months they use so much of the stuff on the roads here large parts of my black Jeep are bone white.
Even using a cover there is that short portion of line that is exposed, that's my main concern.

Northern Ontario Canada here, no issues over the years.
Word to the wise, try to keep a cover on and the line dry before it gets cold. Had a few times my rope freeze up from not running my cover before it got real cold

I gotta say I'm surprised. Road calcium/chloride mix does some nasty stuff to many different car parts. Shocked it doesn't hurt synthetic rope.

Someone on this forum is a plastics engineer. He should be able to provide some factual insight. My bet is that it has little effect on that synthetic rope.

Dyneema and Spectra and other HWMPE ropes/lines are not affected by salt or calcium. That being said it’s always best to keep your lines clean and free of any debris that may pose “grit” rubbing risks.

Even if the salt spray won't deteriorate the synthetic line, it is always a good idea to keep it as clean & dry as possible and keep it out of the sun. On my JK, I got creative and made a few 'shields' that have worked great.

Be more worried about what it does to your winch. I'd get a cover (cheap one at least) to keep the crap off it
