Has anyone else seen this? Its only available for pre-order. It connects to power thru your OBD-II port. But when I check if will work with my Jeep, says not enough info. It looks really simple to set up and I already have other Ring components that work very well.

https://ring.com/products/car-cam

can pre order for $199, after 1.31.23 goes up to $249

I don't have a Tazer JL mini but Im going to guess you can't use this if you do?

I been running Garmins through the OBD port without problem. Ran two different Mini 2 and now the Garmin Tandem in the 23. I don’t see why the Ring wouldn’t work.

EDIT:
The way the Ring mounts looks like it would be very inconvenient in the Jeep.

Ugh. The sole Jeep entry on the Non-Compatible Vehicle list is...mine.

How do you do this, is the ODB connector from Garmin, or 3rd party?

I would appreciate the part number, Amazon link or similar.

Yeah, would be curious how it actually looks mounted in a Jeep. It just looks like a good, fairly simple solution for car cam, esp if you want sentry mode.

I have the option of doing just that with the Garmin OBD power adapter. You have 3 setting, 10 mins, 24 hours or infinity. You can also power up to two cameras. I’d assume you could run two Tandems for a total of 4.

Fair enough. Just bums me out. I would love to have cloud dashcam storage though. I didn't look too deeply because they obviously hate Canadians, but how is it communicating to the cloud? SIM based?

But you don't have the mobile ring subscription, so you would need something else. It was the last FAQ question.

I saw that, curious why just 2021?
I'm chatting with a Ring rep right now, and will report back.

------------

Ok. I'm back.

The initial response to my vehicle compatibility inquiry:

"Well as of right now James, it is our newly released unit. And for the technology that we had right now on the new device is still not compatible due to the OBD port that is on the car itself."

When I pressed on the issue of Wrangler model years and trims:

"But I'll take note on that since we are also gathering information on how we can improve on our newly released device. As far as I know What's on the list are all types of cars that are currently not compatible with our newly released Car Cam."

And when I pressed on vehicle compatibility apparently still being worked out:

"Exactly James! And i'm also glad you had contacted us today and raising this concern. I will let our Innovations Team. So that they could make upgrades that it'll be compatible with your car and also the others that is on the list."

So...stay tuned, I guess.

Hope this helps.

A Ring Protect Go subscription, sold separately, is required to use Live View, Two-Way Talk, Real-Time Notifications, and GPS Locator over LTE when the Car Cam is away from home wifi, and to use the Cloud Highlights (including Cloud Highlights for Traffic Stop). Ring Protect Go is only available in the U.S.
