The backbone system itself is extremely sturdy, I think they may be a little conservative on their weight limits. It wasn't too awful to install, took a couple of hours I guess.It appears that if you get the Pioneer Elevation platform you are likely going to exceed the weight limits should you wish to carry a rooftop tent. Not to mentioned anything else strapped to the sides.
It looks like it would only work with the 3 crossbars. And that is assuming you get a good light tent.
Any better options?
We mounted the tent directly to the crossbars, didn't see much point paying for a platform just to throw a tent on top of it. Maybe if the tent was coming on and off all the time, but those damn things are heavy.
Something else to keep in mind, you don't have as much payload capacity as you would think. It's fairly easy to hit GVWR loading up your Jeep. Up to you whether you are comfortable exceeding that or not.
