It appears that if you get the Pioneer Elevation platform you are likely going to exceed the weight limits should you wish to carry a rooftop tent. Not to mentioned anything else strapped to the sides.
It looks like it would only work with the 3 crossbars. And that is assuming you get a good light tent.
Any better options?
The backbone system itself is extremely sturdy, I think they may be a little conservative on their weight limits. It wasn't too awful to install, took a couple of hours I guess.

We mounted the tent directly to the crossbars, didn't see much point paying for a platform just to throw a tent on top of it. Maybe if the tent was coming on and off all the time, but those damn things are heavy.

Something else to keep in mind, you don't have as much payload capacity as you would think. It's fairly easy to hit GVWR loading up your Jeep. Up to you whether you are comfortable exceeding that or not.

True. Big reason why I tried to convince my wife to let me buy a G-wagon 350d. It's only 50k more than the Jeep, but alas.. no luck.

Yeah, once you add in two adults, a full tank of gas, the RTT, and the rest of your camping gear you are pretty much on it by my envelope calculations. I'm scared to go to a public scale and actually check.

I was thinking about getting this rack myself, so I have downloaded the instructions to see what a pain it may be to install..
I have to say I was pretty shocked about the limitations on cargo capacity.

Hello,

Our mounting system is different for the pioneer platform and adds more support! We designed our backbone specifically for the pioneer platform and many satisfied people can attest it holds up with the best! Give us a call if you have any questions so we can get you taken care of!

Finally got this installed. Did it at home on a Saturday, VERY happy with how it turned out, Their YouTube video made this stupid simple, hardest part was the stress of drilling holes in a new Jeep!

All worth it now, 800 lb static load capacity is amazing. Looks damn good and VERY well engineered.

(PART # RJLB1)

After much research I have decided to do this same set up. It is the cleanest set up I have seen.

If you have the liners is a bit extra to trim them to fit, but great product and the installation video and instructions make it a breeze! Good luck, sure it'll go easy and you'll enjoy it!
