RHD (non-US) JL... how quickly would you buy?

If I'm in USA I'd have bought a JL as soon as the orders opened because Jeeps are a local product and owners and dealers are aplenty. For anyone outside of US territory, for every person buying a Jeep, there are 10 others who are lining up to say I told you so and authorities wouldn't take much of your side either in an issue. You would be on your own with a defective vehicle.

Jeep's reliability record has left a sour taste with Australians (RHD) and in some other RHD asian markets, people don't buy Jeeps unless they're financially ready to write the whole vehicle off at a moment's notice.

Mechanical differences of LHD vs. RHD steering aside, Jeep itself recognised in foreign on-location testing of the JL Wrangler that new environmental factors come in to play that would need changes to certain components (e.g. see Australian outback tests but there are many locations within Australia itself they haven't tested in).

Seeing how well Jeep has managed to meet and exceed their unreliability record with the JL (see officially accepted recalls and issues), are potential RHD JL buyers having second thoughts about being the second bunch of guinea-pigs when the JL RHDs are released for the first time? Especially if you already have a good JK?

All cars have recalls FCA probably has more then most, dunno. If jeep didnt offer a unique vehicle that no other company can come close to I wouldnt be in one. If I wanted total quality over a VERY capable off road vehicle I'd go toyota 4 runner or similar.

I knew this going into the purchase. The Casablanca movie comes to mind. I'm shocked SHOCKED to find there are quality issues in an american car company!! Dont get me wrong the american car companys put out some pretty good stuff lately. Much of the problems we see now are likely due to some pretty stringent reporting standards both required and companys being proactive. Likely in reality the troubles are far less then previous, just reported more, plus vehicles just have more dodads to go wrong. Still this aint no japanese company.

I wont buy a BMW or Mercedes or Range Rover used out of warranty because parts and labor are so expensive in the U.S. But I am lucky to live in a country where we make a lot of different cars so I have a choice. There are a lot of things to go wrong on a Wrangler, probably more than say a basic Toyota. Locking differentials, Complicated roof attachment systems, 4 wheel drive systems, and the new one has a lot of fancy electronics like cameras, sensors etc. So if you are risk adverse you might consider another vehicle.

I'd wait then for all the bugs to get worked out. I'm unfamiliar with the buying process in other countries and how and if warranties are even offered. Honestly, I usually wait a year or two when a new model comes out, cuz even with all the testing, the general public will put a product through all the paces and contingencies engineers didn't think of. But here I am with a 2018 and I love it.

That is sound logic, but you just never know with american cars. I got 97 tj which was model year change and never had a problem. Others might have and I have read of a few. But no one I know of is staying clear of them. You could also argue that they are really on top of them in a new model year vs the same ole thing. They are selling a lot of these things. What we read about kinda scares some but I take it in context.

Mines already been in the shop with just 600 miles. I aint sweating it, yet lol Its not a jap vehicle so I dont expect perfect, then again they arent all that perfect either. I sure didnt appreciate the cost of a timing belt every 90k on my 97 4runner. I was looking at an 80 toyota land cruiser and sure dont want to mess with head gaskets or the rusty pipe behind the motor. They really screwed up a fine rig with that bad engineering.

Jeep stood behind their screw up on the new 3.6 motor when it first came out. They will likely stand behind any issue on this one. Its a unique vehicle, nothing now comes even close as to what you can do with it, It will be interesting to see what ford does with the bronco. If they come out with solid front axle I may cry. lol But I have had problems with my old broncos too so I dont think anyone will be much better off with them either.

I let my son drive my 18 yesterday and he is in love. lol
