I am looking for information and ideas on how to securely and safely carry an extra 3 gallons of fuel while exploring backroads such as the Yukon's Dempster Hwy up to Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean.
To be wilderness prepared, I would like to mount a reserve fuel container (approx. 3 gal.) on our Wrangler JLU. I have seen ones like the Rock Slider that use a nylon strap to mount to the spare tire (https://www.rockslideengineering.co...d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/a/c/ac-tr-102_-_2_1_1.jpg) but I feel this lacks security when the vehicle is unattended.
I also ruled out the MORryde Side Mount (https://turn5.scene7.com/is/image/Turn5/J104170?wid=810&hei=608) for aesthetic reasons.
The approach I like best is Rotopax Tailgate Mount, such as this one for the JK (https://rotopax.com/var/images/product/1000.1000/IMG_6131.jpg). Unfortunately, Rotopax does not have one for the JL nor do they have an ETA available.
I also like the Rotopax Tire Mount system that they have for the JK (https://rotopax.com/var/images/product/500.500/image_70.png) but this, in its current mount location, would not be compatible with the JL's backup camera. If they or someone else makes one with a slightly higher mounting position, that too would work for us.
Ideas and suggestions are very welcome.
