Replacing Stock Suspension

Kind of a crazy approach, but I like the COG of the stock suspension. However, I'd like improved ride and off-road performance. Will replacing shocks get it done? If so which ones that are available for a stock JLUR? Or is there a full replacement with a 1 inch or lower lift? Remember the old school OME suspension replacements that had almost zero lift?
