Good Morning everyone!

We picked up our new rubicon yesterday and being that the weather decided to be 3 degrees this morning my wife hit remote start ... the jeep turned on, then 5 seconds later shut off. The dash says auto start disabled and it throws the check engine light ... any ideas ?

@FrostySerb
Ok, so you get "auto start disabled" message ..... but Is it a check engine light or is it a warning on dash that indicates StopStart is disabled?

The check engine comes on after the “Remote” start disabled itself ... it cleared after three normal starts ... then Generated the check engine light again on an auto start attempt

Reasons for auto start disabled:
. Driver ’s seat belt is not buckled.
• Driver ’s door is not closed. 6
• Battery temperature is too warm or cold.
• Battery charge is low.
• The vehicle is on a steep grade.
• Cabin heating or cooling is in process and an acceptable cabin temperature has not been achieved.
• HVAC is set to full defrost mode at a high blower speed. • HVAC set to MAX A/C.
• Engine has not reached normal operating temperature. • The transmission is not in a forward gear.
• Hood is open.
• Transfer case is in 4LO or Neutral
• Brake pedal is not pressed with sufficient pressure.
Other Factors Which Can Inhibit Autostop Include:
• Accelerator pedal input.
• Engine temp too high.
• Vehicle speed threshold not achieved from previous auto-stop (2 mph (3 km/h) BSG, 5 mph (8 km/h) ESS
• Steering angle beyond threshold.
• ACC is on and speed is set.
• Vehicle is at high altitude
• System fault present
• Low fuel is detected

It may be possible for the vehicle to be driven several times without the STOP/START system going into a STOP/ START READY state under more extreme conditions

I originally misspoke, it’s the auto start not

Is the check engine light on after you manually start the jeep? If so, read the codes and find out why the check engine light is on. A dealer can do that or you can go to autozone and have them read it with a code reader. If there are no codes it could be that you're low on gas. I think anything below an 1/8 of a tank will disable remote start.

have you previously remote started without moving the jeep? I believe there is a set limit to remote starts before you have to be in the jeep and start it with the button

No, we literally picked it up yesterday and the check engine light came on then when we remote started, the dealer put the scanner on and said there were no codes that the check engine cleared

then this morning the first attempt to remote start, the jeep started then shut down and now the check engine stays o. With that service error

@karynm8621

Your belief is correct... if you remote start the JL, more then 3 times and do not go inside the JL after any remote start and push the ignition button.... and ready the JL, to drive, the vehicle will fail the next attempt at remote start... You will get a single horn beep and that is it.

In the OP's case though, this is not the underlying issue/cause.

Now this error pops up when the jeep is put in anything other than Park

@FrostySerb

The JL is known to give all sorts of off the wall messages, have the wipers go crazy, dash lights flash and more when battery(s) are depleted...

Your JL undoubtedly sat on the dealer's lot in Penn. for a couple of weeks plus without being started... it was shipped from factory and not run much.. ALL what you are seeing can very well be/ probably is battery related. This morning was quite cold so battery(s) reacted accordingly...

Once the battery depletion issue is addressed all should hopefully be aok again. Once battery(2) are up to snuff, the CEL will probably clear within a few miles of driving.. IF not, dealer time..

Remote start is designed to shut off automatically when there’s a CEL or a Low Fuel light on.

You seem to have either a low auxiliary battery, or a problem with the charging system.

Unfortunately, this is how some of these Jeeps roll. Even brand-spanking new ones. There are many posts on this.

Sounds like your dealer is not very proactive. Take it to the dealer and make sure to show them these photos of the error codes.

Good luck.

So I hooked the jeep up to a charger for 6 hours / the issues haven’t been resolved ... pretty frustrating to say the least ... especially since I showed the service manager the check engine light yesterday before we left the dealership ...
Here is the code it’s throwing

Luckily it’s a third vehicle but still ... $50k+ ride going back to the dealership after less than 24 hours of ownership ... what is this a Land Rover ???
