@DToxic

No matter how much smoke he attempts to blow up your arse, the Wrangler JL 3.6 gets 5 quarts of oil when you do an oil and oil filter change on it.
I agree...it’s just hard to argue with a foreman.

Anyone have a pic of what 5 qts should look like on the dipstick? OR a pic of a brand new JL dipstick? I seem to remember my dipstick from the factory covered the whole bulb as well.

Might just have to drain some out for peace of mind...and do my own oil in the future. Sucks leaving free oil changes on the table tho

Post 64 here has a pic that is pretty representative of 5 qt. fill.

Remember to let the vehicle sit for say a half hour plus before you check the dipstick.

By the way, I would be frucking arguing with him! Specs call for 5 qts. regardless of what that dipshit SM, spews.

so the service manager told me that the system pulls 6 quarts even if they use 5.2 quarts. 0.2 is for the filter housing etc. The foreman confirmed the level is correct, but it still wets the top of the "bulb". According to the picture above, that means it's overfilled by 1 quart...
If it’s at the yellow arrow mark it’s over filled by 1 quart

I went in to my dealer and asked if they would give me the oil filter for my JL and I would pass on my free oil changes offered through the Jeep Wave program. I was told no and the conversation continued as so:

“Why don’t you let us change it?” Asked the service rep.

“Tell me what oil and how much goes in my JL?”

He types on his computer....

“5w-20 and six quarts.” He replied.

“Your wrong. Check the manual. This is why I don’t allow you to do the oil change.”

Blank stare.

At the dealer now waiting for the extra quart to be drained - or to have the oil change redone - not sure which they will do.

And this is after I told the service writer it took 5 quarts of 0w20. Apparently no one got the message. No one I mentioned it to was aware of the 5 quart capacity.

This was my first service with Jeep Wave. They also rotated the tires incorrectly. I’ll be going to America’s Tires to get that sorted out.

I look forward to going to the dealer about as much as going to the dentist.

I am not being critical of anyone but this thread is exactly why I do all my own maintenance, and I have a new JLUS. With so many cars at dealerships and they are herded through like cattle daily, I've seen "Many" mistakes. Things happen, but I don't need to try and prove a mistake the dealer did and they "WILL" deny unless it's on paper. I had 2 of my good friends who were ASE certified mechanics tell me dealers "hide" things all the time. One just retired after 32 years with GM. I've said this on another discussion, take ownership of your Jeep and "look" at what they did. If not, it could be a $40,000 mistake on your part. Please don't slam me I'm only trying to give the best advise I can. I've had Jeeps since 1976 and still own a few... ;)

this is only going to add to the mess...

@Litfuse I agree, I want to try to get oil and filters compensated and do it myself...but I doubt any dealership will let us do that.
They told me it was a liability issue and could not give me the oil filter. Seems like dealers being misinformed is a bigger liability issue.

You will get no dealer to give you the filter like that. I have tried many times over the years and they all say no... AND... obviously they use bulk oil so.............

OEM Oil filter costs under $9.00. 5 quarts of Pennzoil Synthetic oil, costs about $11.00 or less after rebate. Takes all of say 15 min. to actually do the oil change and clean up afterwards. Personally, it makes more sense to me to do the deed yourself.

If you go to the dealer you save what, $20.00. You don't know what they did or did not do. You risk they will cross thread the drain plug, crack the oil filter cover, or screw something else up. The vehicle may sustain damage while there. You have to drive there and wait or whatever. All to save a lousy $20. :giggle:

Not me...

I agree. I'm not letting the dealer do mine. I already went to Walmart and bought all my supplies...

Doing mine from now on as well. A previous poster said they told the advisor exactly what to do, but they failed anyway. I had the same experience. I think it is trades as being perceived as a less prespectable line of work causing a lack of quality people. Millennials think it is inferior work and would rather work at a cell phone store. Also, I suspect honest people are turned away by questionable service and repair advice, which must be common since I have experienced it quite a bit.

I've been using K&N filters for some time now, they seem to work realy well and "will not" void your warranty. I'm not advertizing or promoting them in any way, but the part # for the JL 3.6 is: PS-7026 and "most" big box auto stores have them. My local auto parts store has them for $8.99 Well worth the money! Ran nothing but a K&N on my Cherokee and 227,000 miles later I sold it and it's still going.
