Today I got in my Red Rock 4x4 tailgate reinforcement plate. Bought it for $79.99 on Extreme Terrain. Also using Rough Country’s relocation bracket.

Everything went in smooth and took around 2 hours plus a trip to Lowe’s to get a TT55 torx bit (same as T55 just a hole in the TT55, from my understanding).

Bought some black pvc and rubber chair feet to extend from the stock stops.

Extended the 3rd brake light to see it over a 35” tire using this setup. Had to cut a notch in the carrier so the wire could fit without it extending too far.

Time will tell how well this holds up but seems very sturdy.

Did you have to space the relocation bracket on the left side since the red rock bracket doesn’t go all the way across ?

Yeah it comes with 2 spacers. I wasn’t sure it did when I bought It since it just came out but yeah it’s a good option for the price!

Is this similiar in function to the mopar reinforcement kit that's about $600? I'm running about 85lb spare without reinforcement....at what spare weight is it needed?

How much space is there between the tire and the tailgate now? Looks like it’s 3 or 4 inches

Yeah this does the same thing just not as “pretty” as the mopar kit. All this is, is a steel plate that’s been cut and drilled. Which is all you need and for $80. You should be fine at 85lbs I think that’s what the tailgate is rated for. My spare is 122 lbs and I was riding around for about a week without a reinforcement plate, the JL tailgate is much sturdier than the JK but I put this plate on there just for piece of mind.

When I measured to extend the isolators it was like 3 and 7/8” from paint to back of tire. The rims I have are 20x10 -18 offset.

I didn't find any installation instructions online for this. I'm assuming it requires holes to be drilled versus using existing holes, correct?

What exactly did you reinforce? The weakpoint of the OEM setup is still there, your mod didn't do anything but add weight to the jeep and lighten your wallet. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. If you want a tailgate carrier, you need something like the Evo or the motobilt.

No drilling required. Uses existing holes with new hardware that is included.

Look dude, this is an $80 alternative to the mopar kit. This is not a tailgate carrier nor did I want one. Thanks for your time on this thread but negative shit needs to go.
