Recommended hitch extender for Thule 4 bike carrier?

Hello all,

I am the proud first-time owner of a 2021 JLUR and I have a Thule 4 bike carrier but, I need a way to extend it so it will extend past the spare tire. Do ya'll have any recommendations or do I need to sell this carrier and get one that works for the Jeep?

I'm favorable towards Curt, as they're made in the USA and have an extensive reputation in towing products. They make several lengths (the one linked is 8") so measure how much extra distance you'll need to clear the tire before ordering. Just make sure it's a 2" extender and doesn't reduce or adapt to 1-1/4" or 2-1/2".

I got one from a tractor supply, I think it was Reese. I wanted to be able to return it easily if I didn't get the clearance I needed so I tested it in the parking lot. : )

I went with the Kuat Hi/Lo Pro to provide a bit of clearance between the tire and the extension.

My tire was still hitting the arm of my bike rack (Kuat) and dropping a couple inches was easier than installing a rear tire relocation bracket.

You might want to consider the Curt Raise/Drop Extender (in the drop configuration) as it would lower the bike rack to a more manageable height too.

I run the kuat nv 2.0 bike rack with the same extension above on our new jl and it works perfect. Whatever you buy definitely get something with anti-wobble built in.

Did you end up finding an extender that worked? I have same issue with Thule 4 bike rack (which I love). Worried about full weight of rack + 4 bikes on extender with reduced tongue weight capacity
