The article only says 2018 Wrangler, it does not specify JL or JK, though I assume it is JL specific.

All other vehicles listed have a year range (2014-18), Wrangler is only 2018. I assume that means the JL. What is it they say about people who assume?

Great example of what I was trying to explain about the future 2018 JL ,JK confusion. Another reason why waiting for my 2019 is if you buy a 2018 jeep wrangler for the rest of the time that you own it every time you buy a part or accessories every time you go to an auto parts store every time you talk to a friend and say I have a 2018 wrangler they’ll say which one? And I promise at some point you will get the wrong parts because the person selling the parts will just assume. I hate when manufacturers do this.

Good news is that it is a software fix.
Bad news is that after all this time, the software is not right.

I just checked my vin on jeep site. No recall and said it was updated may 25. It's possible it' not for the JL. My ram is in it though.

. . . And I promise at some point you will get the wrong parts because the person selling the parts will just assume.
This happened to me yesterday at Summit Racing when an asshat tried to sell me floor mats for a JKU, despite my repeated declaration that I needed them for a JLU. He replied that they would fit, because "the JLU is a sub-model."

Suffice it to say that he lost a sale. It made for a nice spring drive with the top down, though.

No different for 2019 when you will have to confirm what engine. Just about every car/truck requires more information than just the year. Jeeps have been the anomaly to this rule until now. I understand your concern but I don't see this being an issue at all.

Wife just sent me a link about this. I hope the electrical gremlins don't make me sad for trading in the mostly manual JK we had.

It is interesting because if you pull up the full informational PDF's you see that it effects the 19 Wranglers produced from 8-21-2017 (this could ONLY be JK's because JL's had not started production yet right?) to 5-23-2018 (Can only be JL's because JK's shut down production a while ago) so I am guessing it is for JK's and JL's.

Uh...that's not great. We have a cross-country road trip planned in 3 weeks and this recall fix isn't going to be available until July? It doesn't show up on my Mopar vehicle information, so either it hasn't hit the system yet (even though FCA initiated the recall), or it doesn't actually apply to JLs.
