To be fair, it reduces torque when it believes the clutch has heated dangerously.

However, as there are no temperature sensors, that calculation is based purely on a modeled guess.

If Toyota built a Wrangler clone to sell to the public, with Toyota’s quality and longevity do you think Jeep would be more careful to produce a solid Wrangler?
Well Toyota did this already... the FJ40 Land Cruiser was a direct attempt to grab the market from willys/kaiser. Of course there's the fj Landcruiser as well which did horribly and was canceled. But we're still here with a recall for clutch failures.

So, what is the over under on a recall on all of the clutches?

Unrelated, what RPM do people bring their vehicles up to when starting from 0?

I don’t. I can launch with my foot completely off the gas, if I’m not in a hurry. Note I have a 2dr (lighter) and a Rubicon (better gearing for this manual trans)

Funny - that was a feature on the GTI we traded in - one of the first things my wife asked when she started driving the JLU was, "Is there a gear indicator like in the GTI?" - she'll actually be happy with this!
That's funny...some folks posting they are annoyed by it, yet its the first thing I've heard about this s/w update that makes me WANT to have it done. :)

I've had the gear displayed on the dash of a couple other vehicles including my Corvette and often thought it would be cool to have on the JLR, too.

I would have liked that early on after about a 10 year absence from a manual, but now I am used to it. Best thing would be its a reminder to go into 6th on the highway so I'll leave it on if I get it.

My '97 TJ had the upshift nanny light that would illuminate to tell you when to upshift for maximum fuel economy.

It’s not available to dealers, yet. They are applying it at the factory for ‘21s. It shouldn’t be long before it’s available for the rest of us.
