@JeepCares I just got back from my dealership. Flemington Jeep in Flemington NJ. They were supposed to fix my rear window defroster via the TSB. They told me nobody has the epoxy required for the repair and did NOT complete the repair. They said they need to replace the entire rear window which has been on backorder for me since February. Why create a TSB that requires parts that dealerships don't have? HELP!

Great question. Mine seems stuck on pretty good, however it swivels now. Not sure if it is supposed to swivel, or this is the final step before it falls off again.
Upon inspection of the attachment, the metal inside is not hard attached to the wire. It swivels. If the connection/solder is only to the metal "button" inside, then it will slightly swivel. It appears to me that the act of swiveling does not diminish the electrical connection nor diminish the security of the connection. It is my suspicion that the original solder used low melt-point solder and that the full amperage ran thru the solder, resulting in a melt. If the electrical flow is not bottle-necked thru the solder then the system seems to work. I think the high Ag epoxy will work well if most of the original solder is removed. It is a tedious repair.

I had mine come off and the dealer said it was from me running the defroster too much? I just soldered it back myself and it seems to have worked ever since. So sick of the dealers at this point. I even took it in for service six months ago and mentioned the recall, got it back and I took it in a week ago for my second service at a different dealer and they said the recall was never taken care of. Go figure, I had wrote a complaint on the previous dealer because the "mechanics" were playing around instead of working on my Jeep which turned what should have been an hour long visit to nearly 3 hours.

I waited about two months and had it replaced....not even a whole week later it came off again. Now waiting to see what the dealership is going to do.

I'm surprised so many people are having their entire rear windows replaced for this solder problem. After noticing one of the two wires detached from my rear window's heating elements (passenger side), my dealership sent me to a local auto glass place, and that place cold soldered the heating element while I waited (and my dealership covered the repair since my JL is still under warranty). I even had a windshield chip repaired while there, and they were done with everything in less than a half hour. That was months ago, and my rear defroster has been working great since then.

Am I just lucky to have a place in town that's able to do this sort of work? It doesn't seem like it requires exotic tools or materials (though my dealership wasn't able to do it). The tech at the glass place just soldered the "male" button back onto the window using a silver, mercury-looking material. After letting it dry/cure for a few hours, as I was told, I just snapped the "female" end of the wire back on.

4 failed repairs since Nov.2018! Didn't want this but now new window on back order since Jan 19!! Actually thanks to JeepCares have a Jeep case # and Jeep has called and said my dealer has window and will be calling...great! Well no call, now I've called them to set up an appointment had to leave a message, no call back from them today???

Really did ot want new window but one solder fix negitive, 3 epoxy fixes the last which has held but the defroster does not work, fuse good!? Sure makes me feel like I hope no serious warranty problem happens! Imagine the guys with busted rear windows, duct tape and plastic!

Go Jeep!!!

Have had this happen twice now. Both times it fried the defroster grid.

So far we think the root cause is low seal compression at the top of the hatch causing water to leak onto the grid, which then reduces resistance and heats the grid to the point of failure and melting the wires off.

first time dealer replaced just the back glass, I go to a new dealer and they are replacing the glass/hinges/seal to try and prevent the small water leak. I'm at the dealer right now getting new parts, I will have to report back and see if it fries again.

I think it was only leaking when we go through a car wash and pressure forces water inside.

Interesting. How did the repairman 'separate' the connection? Upon inspection the rubber housing cannot be separated from any connector. They appear as one, albeit the interior can swivel. If they can be separated then that would be great. There does not appear to be a separate male/female connection as in other cars. More info would be very helpful. Thanks. Your post is encouraging. :)

Itā€™s a snap, here a picture of piece that is soldered to the window, you can buy replacement ones from Frost Fighter

whyjguy, my first "disconnect" was without the defroster being used at all! 2nd and 3rd fix pretty much the same because connections failed in a few days! 4th try both wires came off now attached and staying that way but defroster not working, fuses good????

DanFeIix, I also cannot figure how the connection comes apart? Someone in this thread said they made solder connection then connected the wire??? I cannot find how this can happen, guess I should try harder, darn thing not working anyway maybe I can find out if they really can be separated? New window on order since Feb. now have FCA/Jeep case # but so far that has not helped. Jeep says window in at dealer, dealer says no window, expected 5/17???? If new window the same, can't see that this will help except being a real inconvenience to me to have it done!

As mentioned before in this thread I had same disconnect with my 2012 JKU but one shot of conductive epoxy done by myself worked for good? Really stinks they can't fix a seemingly simple thing like this and the only solution is a complete new window assembly?? daaaah!

Go Jeep!!!
