Do know that dealerships are known to tell you lets say, whatever they decide to tell you.

Just because a specific dealer says FCA will not do this or that, but only will do this, is more often then not, a crock of chitt.

Follow the forum closely and you will come to realize what I just said is not an overstatement.

Anyway, with that said, do know that your dealership is not to be 100% believed / trusted.

Watch your back so to speak.

IF you are not sure if the dealer is doing you right, then YOU should get FCA involved. Contact FCA Customer Service. Let FCA tell you for example whether they will or will not replace a part.. Tell FCA you cannot get a loaner vehicle...

In regard to this rear window defroster thing... repairs aren't working and rear window replacements are failing as fast as they are putting them in.

.
How do I contact FCA customer service? I'm new to this.

If you Northern guys (because I haven't seen a lot of Southern guys have this issue) just keep replacing the rear glasses under warranty, what happens after your 3yr/36k miles are up? Then you have to pay OOP for this shit.

FCA clearly has no desire to solve the root of this issue.

Does anyone make conductive tape? Could you simply tape a wire to the exposed contact area on the glass and do away with the snap connector altogether?

Maybe tape an extension wire from the unsoldered connector to the glass. That might work in a pinch and not leave evidence of modification until a new glass is installed under warranty.

Or duct tape a 12v air dryer to have it blow on your rear glass.

After your fix if, it works leave tape on, it will help! After 1 solder fix, solder failed then 2 failed epoxy fixes by dealer, no heat!! I'm going for the new window! I will tape those connectors too!! It's funny I epoxy fixed my '07 and '12 JKU's myself and it stayed fixed, no tape!!?? Does not seem to work on the JLU??

I'm not sure why these connections fall off, perhaps the wires need different fastenings. I've looked carefully and there shouldn't be a reason for the original soldering should unfasten but it does??

Time for Jeep/FCA to take notice I think!

I'm sure by the new window it'll be spring and in the 50's and won't need the defroster!!! lol

Go jeep!!!

Just joined the club! Happy to be here. I'm going in for my first oil change in a few weeks so I will probably mention it then. Otherwise I am not too concerned.. with the remote start on cold days the windows without a defroster are pretty clear by the time I get in anyway.

Join the crew. They should replace your window for you under warranty. You are the fifth person to have this occur
Yup another one here. Just got word from my dealer that I need new rear window on 2018 JL Sahara. Car approaching one year old. Soldered pice on right side separated from window. One month wait for new window

For what its worth, I called my dealer about the potential fix. They said they have an independent glass repair come out to re-solder the clips back on. They also said that it would be better to wait until the weather gets warmer to attempt any possible repair due to the huge temperature swings right now.

Wow, that is one of the best quotes I've ever heard from a dealer! I believe that soldering it back on is the best overall fix. I think it would also take less time to seek out that glass repair shop and pay to have it fixed yourself. I have found that it's often worth my money to save the time that it takes to not go to the dealership (not just a Jeep thing).

Not sure why folks would not demand a new window? (Although from this thread that doesnā€™t seem to always work out either). Not even a question with my dealer...they called me an hour after I dropped car off to say they had ordered a new window. Unfortunately there seems to be a bit of a supply issue here. Really poor design by FCA imho.

Due to environmental regulations industry has been moving to lead free solders over the last several years. Unfortunately they are of more brittle than solders that contain lead and they require higher temperatures and better process control to assure reliability.

My guess is that the rash of problems has to do with this change on the JL defroster connection. Hopefully they figure it out soon.
