Great question. Mine seems stuck on pretty good, however it swivels now. Not sure if it is supposed to swivel, or this is the final step before it falls off again. So, can I take the TSB to mean that any vehicle built AFTER April 14, 2019 is using some other method for attaching the wires to the rear defroster? Said another way, the rear defroster issue is now fixed for any cars made after April 14?
Hi PapaPark,Iām new here and just wanted to let people know my experience with this problem.
I had the rear window defroster repaired by the dealer 2 months ago. Friday (2 days ago ) I had to use the defroster to clear the window for the first time since it was repaired.
I started to smell an electrical problem about a minute after turning it on. The car started filling up with smoke and I thought I was having an electrical fire so I pulled over after shutting the defroster off.
I go to the back and open the window to check that connection that was repaired and it MELTED.
The window shattered while I was standing under it and I got hit with the falling glass. I got 2 superficial cuts one on each hand, and my right thumb got hit with a piece of glass and I needed 2 stitches to stop the bleeding.
By Jeep replacing these windows is not solving the problem, itās putting a bandage on an open wound. This defroster connection needs to be redesigned .
Tomorrow morning first thing Iām calling my lawyer. Now that injuries are starting to happen maybe theyāll finally redesign it and recall all the wranglers before other people get hurt.
Good luck to everyone else and donāt jig rig this connection. If this would have caught fire while I was on the highway it could have been a lot worse.

Hi Visible15,Put a claim in back in February? After months of "glass is ordered we're just waiting" I finally was told "mid-June it will be here" Getting very annoyed about this whole situation and how complex an issue this has become. Looking forward to taking the top off and being done with it all.
I agree. They appear to melt off so I suspect the solder used overheats. It seems to me that the solder should be removed as much as possible before an effective cold solder epoxy fix. Have you used the defroster after this fix and does the connection appear to overheat? Thanks. There is a metallic "cold solder " epoxy that could repair these ; yes, it's a defect, why should you deal with it, but it also seems to be a huge waste of materials to reject the whole rear glass for a faulty solder joint.
My JK tab separated, I did use the conductive epoxy to repair it. (Out of warranty)
Glass repair shops and auto body supply houses should have this. Surface prep is key, but it beats waiting , and then having the Jeep at the Dealers.
The defroster worked, then it got traded ...I agree. They appear to melt off so I suspect the solder used overheats. Great post. I think what happens is that the soldering, at the factory, has not contacted the two metal plates and that causes the solder itself to be the conduit of the high amp electricity. It overheats and melts. Your description secures the wiring but also creates the necessary metal-to-metal electrical connection so that the solder does not carry the full current. Thanks.Mine was unsoldered on the passenger side and I didnāt really want the dealer to replace my rear window.
I use leftover from the repair kit (Frost Fighter) that I had bought to repair my JKU last year.
I noticed that the wire was moving when opening and closing the rear window, it is not tightly secured.
After reattaching my tab, I used some small wire to secure the wire to the clip. I slid the wire under the clip and secured the wire to it. I put two wires in X.
The wire is no longer moving at the tab, it should now stay in place.

@JeepCares I just got back from my dealership. Flemington Jeep in Flemington NJ. They were supposed to fix my rear window defroster via the TSB. They told me nobody has the epoxy required for the repair and did NOT complete the repair. They said they need to replace the entire rear window which has been on backorder for me since February. Why create a TSB that requires parts that dealerships don't have? HELP!Hi everyone,
Recently there was a Technical Service Bulletin (08-037-19) that appears to address concerns similar to the symptoms that you are having with your vehicle. To ensure this TSB applies, we would like to get you back into the dealer to have a qualified technician review the details of the TSB and specifics of your vehicle. Once reviewed, the technician can then perform the repair procedure that best matches the symptoms and diagnosis of your vehicle.
