Rear Steel Bumper Install Issue

I was able to get my hands on a rear Rubi steel bumper for my sport. For some reason after installing, my Rubicon wheel on the rear runs against the bumper when closing? Anyone what might be causing this?

I believe I read somewhere that the plastic molded tire carrier is different on the Sport VS Rubicon (Rubi places the tire higher) but can't confirm that. If so that could be the reason for the rubbing.

Just looked at the parts fiche and looks like there are two different mounts.

If it's only a slight rub I'd leave ity ee's s it will rub the paint off but it will also add support for that tailgate. Did this on my tj and its lasted 20 years

I may have a spare tire carrier if you want it off my rubicon if my dad hasn’t chunked it. He ask me yesterday if I wanted him to keep it for me I said no. So he may haha chunked it in the trash. If not it’s free.

Same thing happened to me on my Sagara. Installed the RC relocation bracket, really happy about the result, and if I want eventually to have bigger tire it’s already going to support it.

I can see that you have removed the bumper cap that align with the fenders. How dif you close the end bumper or you left it as is?

I did this to my sport with 35's. I put a smittybilt relocation bracket on.

Hi Walter,

Can I ask where did you find that steel rear bumper? Also, did it come with the sensors? I am looking to replace my plastic factory rear bumper on my Rubicon JL but can only find Mopar steel rear bumpers without provisions for rear sensors. I want to retain the sensor but with a steel bumper.
