I had the same issue. I brought it into the shop multiple times for it since they didn't fix it the first could of times. They found out that the seal around the back window was not properly done. They filled it with some material that pushed out the rubber seal more and made it snug with the window. Keeping the rubber clean as well will allow for a proper seal, I noticed this when after it was fixed it would leak when it was really dirty.

So is there actually a fix or is it another "feature" that the dealership will tell you to pound salt when there is an inquiry.

I am having this problem too.. In addition to my defrost wires detaching, now I'm getting water all the way into the Jack storage.

Apparently there is a fix for the defrost issue now. I just dropped mine off at the dealership and they said they have a repair kit that Chrysler wants them to use. Dealer told me if it doesn't work, they will replace the glass. Would love to hear from Jeep Cares if this is the approved fix at this point.

Hi Damonthomas515,
There was a TSB released for the rear window defroster which does not require replacing the back window. The kit they are referring to is a part of this TSB. Please feel free to check in with us after your dealer visit!

  • New window gasket/seal installed under warranty.
  • Dealer also replaced the washer fluid nozzle as it was cracked (during install, apparently).

Zero leaks since.

Anyone have the dealer use a spray aerosol can to clean the seal when it was removed? Just picked up mine and there is a white stain/residue all around where the seal is at...

Also looks like the seal is different. The previous weather seal had more lines and grooves in it. this one looks to be more solid.

**EDIT** Dealer used brake cleaner to clean my hardtop seal..... A lot of it.....

My JL Sahara is currently at the dealership for the same leak issue. Crossing fingers that they fix it properly.

Wow! Itā€™s only a 2 min job. I wish they would have just gave me the part and let me do mine myself.

Hi. This is older post but I came across of it when looking for post about rear door leaks. I think I found leak cause and I am testing a solution. If you look at rear door glass you noticed mate black coating around perimeter. It is solid around the edges and changes to hatch pathern further towards the center. Thatā€™s where seal on glass top edge comes in contact with the glass. It is questionable to expect good seal on such surface without really heave compression of the seal. There is very little pressure on that seal so water can seep through. I looked at glass attachment to see if I can position glass lower so seal will be resting on smooth surface. Maybe it can be dropped lower but for now I taped the crosshatching on the glass with thin teflon tape to test my theory. If it stops leak I will research mowing glass lower to place seal on smooth surface of glass.

Found this thread.

My rear defroster came off 4x in a year. Dealership replaced window. But itā€™s off AGAIN. There is also a leak on the back window where 4-5 streams of water are running down the inside.

Contacted dealer who said point blank...we wonā€™t touch that. Not our problem.

what did you guys spray on the weatherstripping to create a better seal?
