Keep in mind any oily or greasy substance with trap dirt and make an abrasive mixture and grind your paint. The clear tape along the painted area that the seal touches will help protect your paint.

It is for me. Not a squeak since I put it on.

The link goes to tape that from the description is 1/8" wide. I thought it was supposed to be 1/2"? Am I reading the description wrong or is the link wrong?

The roll I got was 1/8" wide. I put down two strips just for more coverage area and has worked like a charm since. I have not had a squeak from the tail gate since putting it on. I have noticed the tape starting to peel a little at the hinge side of the tail gate. If it starts to come up more, I will just replace it.

It's the other 5 yard option:
3M 5430 PTFE/UHMW Tape, 0.5" width x 5yd length (1 roll)

No noise from the back window since I put the tape on in May.

I applied the tape this morning and enjoyed my very first ride without the tailgate squeak/rattle since taking delivery over a year ago. Thanks for the suggestion! It's almost too quiet now.

Curious to know if those who used the tape only applied it on the top edge of the tailgate? I covered the top edge and about 1" of the inside corners but now am experiencing some type of screeching noise--almost as if I had a mouse in the back.

I only covered the top edge, Sense then quiet.
