Ugh, don't do this! If an adjuster finds this out you are F'ed. They can and will run the VIN. Even if it is negligible to them regarding payout, its blatant fraud, as you are making them pay to replace things you are not replacing. Taken to an extreme, its like if you took the engine out and replaced it with an old Chevy crate engine so you could enjoy the undamaged asset they paid you for.

This makes everyone's insurance go up when people do this. Sure, the bumpers and aftermarket stuff, yeah. the stuff that came from the factory they are making their assessment on, don't do it!
Yea DO NOT do this.... This is terrible advice

this is a total loss but you could by it back. maybe a project crawler. frames are rather inexpensive. believe without shipping its under 2K for the frame.. a member here actually bought a totaled jeep and swapped the frame and everything with his kid. i might go that route one day to make a crawler i dont have to worry about later on

Never said this advice is for everyone. 🙂

Just think of rape and pillaging these insurance company do to you the moment you buy a car.

If you lived in BC, you know what I’m talking about.

YMMV.
Doesn't BC have public insurance? I thought everyone gets their insurance with their license plate, or can you opt out and purchase your own policy?

Hopefully no one was hurt.
My wife had the same thing happen to her in her car. It was totaled.
If the Jeep's frame is bent, it is probably going to be totaled but you won't know for sure until your insurance adjuster makes the call.
Hopefully the driver who hit you has insurance.
The frame not bent, thats just a crumple zone.

Seriously though, hoping everyone is safe. Another example of how well these vehicles hold up in a crash.

Nope. Car insurance is as socialist as it gets here.

I used to live in Ontario. But, BC is the worst. Possibly THE worst across North America. (A simple google search will tell you everything I'm saying is true)

ICBC, which is a privately owned company, has FULL monopoly here.
We don't have a choice here like rest of Canada and the folks down south, where you got plenty to pick from, which promote competition and drive down prices.

It is also mandatory to purchase insurance when you own a car and the prices are outrageous. Paying for car insurance here is like paying for another car loan.

So yes, the rape and pillaging begins as soon as you buy a car, they rear end you, brute force, again and again until you are wring dry.

(Sorry for my language but this needs to be said)

The problem with ICBC is that is has had its coffers raided by whichever political party was in charge.

Now ICBC has become a political football; meanwhile it has to keep raising premiums just to keep operating.

Yes, so when you buy a car here in Vancouver, you are really paying for 2.

(So I don't have a problem taking my things from my 2nd car when the first gets totalled.)

Yup, my dad in Surrey pays CDN$2,000/year for his 8-year old Dodge Journey.

I, twenty miles across the border, pay US$1,800/year for a 1-year old Jeep and a 2-year old Fiat Spider.

I wouldn’t count on it being totaled. My buddy does body work at a major shop and has had a few JL’s that were rear ended and they actually replace the frame. Rule of thumb is damage has to exceed value of vehicle currently. Look around and see what JL’s are going for and you’ll see why they may repair it.

Well if you ever end up with the unfortunate decision to not total it.

Remember to get your insurance company to cover for diminished value due to the vehicle's carfax history.

P.S. Diminished value is actually quite significant here, since I (and pretty much everyone I know) will never buy any vehicle with a crash on carfax. You would lose majority of your potential customer base if you were to ever sell it.

That could be repaired, but like others are saying it will be totaled out by insurance. The integrity of the frame has been compromised. It could be deemed unsafe to drive on the road.

Hurry, put the stock wheels back on!

Came here to say just this but not your insurance company theirs. We ended up getting a lawyer and said get all you want but leave the driver of vehicle out of it (young girl just made a mistake). Turned out pretty good deal.
