Rear defroster is dead

Today was the first day since I bought it the windows were completely frosted over. I remote started it while I was getting ready for work but when I went outside all my windows were defrosted except for the back. So then I went into climate hit the rear defroster and it showed it was on. I drove to work about 10 minutes with the defroster light on the dash and under climate. The window was still completely iced over. I guess I’m calling the dealership again tomorrow already called them about the rear defroster cable just hanging there and they just put a new post on it. Sounds like they need to replace the whole setup.

I believe two other forum members have reported issues with the rear window defroster in the last month or so. Apparently, both had to have the rear window itself replaced per recommendation of FCA. In regard to the 2018 JL/JLU ....Dealers were advised by FCA not to attempt to reglue/epoxy solder of the connector that tends to separate from the rear window. I suggest you go to the dealership (don't call them) and ask to speak directly to the Service Manager. Don't even bother dealing with the Service Writer. In a polite manner, mention this info in to the Service Manager.

Thanks appreciate the information, I’ll head over there tomorrow and talk to him directly. Don’t really care to wait to have it repaired just want them to replace the whole thing so it will work properly.

Unfortunately, it may take the dealership (if they will replace) a few weeks to get the replacement rear window.

I believe two of us have had this issue, so far and you now make number three. Mine has been fixed as as noted above, the dealership insisted on replacing the rear window. There must be a button type connector attached to the window that has been prone to fail. FCA is aware of this issue and has instructed dealers to replace the glass rather than attempt a repair. This is based on what I have been told by Farrish of Fairfax, my dealer. You may want to talk to a different dealership for your window replacement. I believe the windows are more available now, than before.

They replaced the hvac modual, located under the steering wheel. My light never even came on from day nor could I activate it from touch screen . So maybe your issue is at the rear window connection points. (My light comes on now, and I can turn it on from the UConnect screen) but the weather has not dictated me using it yet, so I'm assuming it's fixed but not sure…. Once dealer hooked it up to laptop, they diagnosed this issue pretty quick.

Finally got it into the dealership for them to look at the rear defroster today. They decided to go ahead and order a whole rear windshield. Which is fine with me it’s brand new and under warranty I’m all for complete replacement.

Seems the button that the defrost wire connects to, breaks free or looses continuity. Dash defrost light comes on but nothing will heat up.
Tried several repairs on my last JK. All attempts failed I have access to conductive epoxy and have repaired 3 layer PC boards.
That repair is tough. Using a jeep sahara JK loaner today as mine still in the shop. Rear defrost didn't work! UGH.
Yeah BAM got his entire rear glass replaced, be carfull around the wiring. Gently clean the rear windows around wires...

There are more with the same issue hiding in other threads, This one is in my loaner JK, the JL is holding for now... Its back in the shop. No start condition. 6.1 volts on both batteries. Ordering a HVAC console unit. UGH!... Get your soft top on, That looked like alot of parts!!!

I had the same issue as Frank. Same solution at dealer, new back glass. Getting it installed in a few days... Wonder if the new glass connection will last any longer.
