I have a 2024 Rubicon. Camera lens got hit. Bought a common knock off camera that appears identical to the original. Hooked it up and rear camera now shows blue screen.

only thing I can think of is maybe put too much strain on electric cable from tail gate, but I doubt that’s the problem

any thoughts or experiences installing a new Camera?

Thanks

Was hoping somebody might have dealt with this. If not, then yes that is my next step, it’s a pita to get to it.

Often a blue screen reset within 48 hours. If not pull fuse F11 or the appropriate fuse for the 2024 head unit to force a reset. Why not install an OEM camera?

The oem camera was like $200 vs $50

Look on marketplace. Someone might have a complete tire carrier with the camera for a lot less money.

I guess I would pull the fuse to reset the head unit, wait 48 hours, then go from there. Hopefully not a damaged coaxial cable.

The original camera was working but blurry. Cable was carefully disconnected. And reattached to new camera. That looks and feels just like oem. I also checked connector and wiring in tailgate it was perfect. Time will tell. Will pull fuse tomorrow if it does t come back.
thanks

Too impatient. Went for a drive. Blue screen pops up says “Check your Surroundings” as if it’s there working.

got home pulled 10 amp red fuse F11. Got in hit accessory without starting engine and hit rear camera. Blue screen pops up like before. Turned off accessory and reinstalled fuse. Started it and ran engine put in reverse. Same damn blue screen

I don’t think f11 is right one

I thought... I think if I remember correctly... F51 10 amp red fuse, was for rear camera.

I'm doubting powering on and off with a fuse pull is going to help your camera issue.

You could try pulling F97 and another try with F51 but doubtful it will help.

@Rhinebeck01 has better advice
I was thinking (incorrectly?) F11 or F11 and F97 would trigger a reboot.

I took apart the original camera.
4 Torx#6 screws hold on back cover. 3 shorter ones hold inside cover.

I am almost 100% sure that the ones on eBay and Amazon are made by the same OEM in China. Pretty solidly built including the waterproof seals. They should sell just the outside black metal cover with attached lens cuz that’s all I need here.

If the camera doesn’t get magically activated in 48 hours by the camera Fairy I will put the lens cover from eBay camera onto these parts and try again

So did you end up just swapping the lens?

Camera fixed.

the Replacement camera was never activated on its own. It is absolutely the same camera, but probably needs to have the chip activated by the dealership.

I switched out the lens and the camera was working right away.

just glad it’s fixed
