My JLUR is less than a week old.
This morning I was backing up from the driveway (I am in the habit of looking back no matter what safety features I got) and I noticed that the display screen was blank (grey) while displaying the "Check entire surroundings" line on top.
I waited. shifted into D/P/R several times, then when having cleared driveway I drove 100ft and againg shifted in the reverse....nothing.
Came to work. 1 hr later checked it - it works now.

What the heck? And if it is intermittent like this, do I report it to the dealer? And what could they possibly do if it cannot be replicated on demand?

Take a video with your cell phone if it happens again and take it to the dealer for warranty repair.

A shutdown and restart tends to reset little glitches. Keep an eye out on it to see if it happens again. If it does, video it for evidence and bring it in on warranty if it becomes an often habit.

Steve, Mike,

Yes I somehow did not make the video of it but I immediately after it worked thoght I should've. Well, if it happens again I will, and if it doesn't then there's no need.

CaptainStabbins,

No, not the first Jeep. Third.
XJ 1992 was the first (bought used, had for 13 years), WK Grand Cherokee 2009 is the second (bought new in 2009, thought of trading it in but they offered so little I thought I'd keep it as my son will be of driving age in 2 years) and the JLU is the third, bought new last Saturday having ordered it from the factory.

So....this experience with WK led me to buying extended warranty. This should give you an idea what reliability I am expecting from JLU and Chrysler*FIAT.

Love is blind, I bought it despite my better judgement. If I had any brains I'd go for a Japanese job. My wife bought hers in 2008 and had only been in a shop for repairs once. The rest was scheduled maintenance.

Hi Mike,
We're sorry to hear about your back up camera concern. If this continues and you decide to have your dealer address this, feel free to loop us in via PM. We'd be happy to connect you with a Case Specialist to assist.

My wife drives a BMW. German crap. First day we had seat was broken. Fixed it and 2 days later broken again. Japanese cars have just as many issues. Takata airbags for one...Your camera cutting out is a software glitch that hopefully will get fixed. I had the camera with no backup guide. Then later that day was working again. Read these forums and you will see that the Uconnect is the bane of many peoples existence here. Wait till you get the backup warning sound on your radio and it won't go away till you pull Fuse F97. Hopefully it will never happen again but I doubt it.

I take troubles as they come.

But to say "japanese cars have as many issues" is, to put it mildly, an exaggeration. I already described it in my other thread but my wife bought her CR-V a year before I bought my Grand Cherokee. Over her 11 years and my 10 years she had one problem: AC needed to be sealed and recharged. The rest was wear and tear, expected to occur (strut) and even that happened once.
I was in and out repair shops for all kinds of reasons. Starter bad after 6 years, AC compressor gone after 7 years. Pressure sensors gone within 2 years, and then half of them gone again in 7 more years.
Speed sensor....power window cable ripped (600 bucks). Cruise control gone after 5 years (dont need it so never fixed). Bearings...one after 9 years, one now at 10 years.

She had none of that.
Oh.. .and Takata bag - it was a recall. It never went bad.

I own Jeeps cause I love 'em. Fully knowing what I am into.
Against my better judgement.
