Since new the rear locker light would flash on some engine starts, both in the dash and the switch. The light would go out when starting to drive. I locked and unlocked the locker thinking it was a sticky new switch or something. I took it to the dealer and after 4 days of troubleshooting and working with the Jeep engineers they decided to replace it. Picked it up and waited for the part to arrived. Waited 2 weeks for another axle to be shipped to dealer. Picking it back up today.

I'm having the exact same problem. Will be taking it to the shop on Monday. Curious how it turn out for you? Did it fix the problem and find the root cause?

The dealer installed a new rear axle and the problem appears fixed. I doubt I will ever hear back from Jeep as to what the problem was with the locking actuator.

Much appreciated man! Gonna take it to the dealer and have them look at the actuator.

Just took mine in this morning due to the light flashing on and off all the time. They say water got into the sensor. New sensor is arriving tomorrow. Hopefully this will be the fix.

From what I have heard from my local dealer, this is a common issue with the Rubicon. I myself had the exact same problem. Currently waiting for a replacement actuator. Possible faulty part from the factory.

I forgot that I posted in this thread so this is kinda a double post. My dealer replaced some sensor but told me the issue still persists. Hopefully I wont need a new axle. If I do it would be nice to get a Dana 60...one can only dream, right?

Just heard back from the dealership. Its been there for the past 2 weeks. Turns out the course of action that FCA wants to take is to replace the entire rear axle. Now for the good part....its on back order for the next 6 weeks! With this and my other issue, my Jeep will officially have been in the dealerships service bay longer than in my possession.

Im not one to complain (much) but writing those $1000 checks each month to pay this thing off is beginning to suck when I don't have use of it. Not to mention watching EVERYONE else hitting the trails over the summer while Im grounded. </rant off>

I am having a similar issue. After driving for "awhile" (between about 20 minutes to a couple of hours) usually at highway speeds, I get the flashing rear locker warning and the red rear locker button light on the center console flashes. It usually goes out on its own after a few minutes, but it has lasted through engine shutdown and restart a couple of minutes later (stopped for gas.) It always seemed like it was a light only- no noise or clunks as if something engaged.

I took it to the dealer but the light was out at the time. They said there were no fault codes at all and they drove it for about 10 miles without any problems appearing. Then they told me to stop by next time the light was on.

Intermittent light- the worst kind of light...

Yep, thatā€™s it. Donā€™t worry it will come back and stay on. Then you will get to wait in line for a new rear axle. Mine is 6 weeks out. I could probably build and get a new Jeep delivered in that time.

Just started having the same problem and made an appointment with the dealer.

@Jeep, this sounds like a known issue in the rear axle.

Thought I would share a little more on the order of how mine started having issues.

I was on a camping trip and while still on the road I got a notification that my rear locker disengaged. I thought this was weird but didn't notice any other problems. Once it disengaged it finally dawned on me that the rear locker light had been on for a while even though it should not have.

I got to camp and went out wheeling. While out wheeling the entire radio and dash flashed on and off twice. I couldn't really pull over or risk getting stuck.

A little further down the trail, the red light under the RPM turned on solid. I did get in a situation that I needed to go into 4L and lock the diffs to get out. From that point on the Diff lock light on the dash and the rear locker light on the switch would flash constantly. The crazy thing it would actually turn off after driving for an extended period but would come back on later after we stopped and started again.

Curious what the final results were for everyone else on this thread were.

I was pulling a Tear Drop trailer for a camping trip and while still on the road I got a notification that my rear locker disengaged. I thought this was weird but didn't notice any other problems. Once it disengaged it finally dawned on me that the rear locker light had been on for a while even though it should not have.

I got to camp and went out wheeling in some very muddy conditions. While out wheeling the entire radio and dash flashed on and off twice. I couldn't really pull over or risk getting stuck.

A field rep from Jeep came to the dealership to look at mine and determined that it was an issue with the front locking differential sensor. Apparently, the sensor itself cannot be replaced so they had to replace the entire front differential assembly. I have had it back from the dealership for about a month now and have not had any further issues. Fingers crossed.

Awesome, thanks for the reply.

I take it in tomorrow and can let this thread know how it goes.
