I'm no gearing expert... but it's pretty clear looking at the calculators that 4.88s with 33s aren't going to be efficient if he drives on the highway. Seems like a bad fit considering the OP's stated needs...4.56 is plenty.
Your right, my mistake. I thought he had said he had 35s. He just mentioned 35s

4.88s with 35s .. It will go up tall bridges , climb most hills in North Carolina interstate travel without downshift. I can run 50 in Florida traffic in high gear.
I just still wish for a lower reverse.
I don't ever run over 65 mph , mileage drops quite a lot over 70.
I'm at 2600 at 70 mph
I'd like to know what "mileage drops quite alot over 70mph" looks like in terms of mpg with a 6 speed. On the main highways in TN, GA, NC, AL, SC, the speed limit is 70mph most places and people cruise at 75-80mph. I'd like to get an idea for how much the 6 speed and 5.13s on 37s or even 4.88s with 35s drop mileage keeping up with traffic at 75mph on the hwy. There's gotta be somebody on here that is running that setup and can answer the question.:)

I have 33”s with 4.56 gears...
While I know that’s not what you asked for, my RPMs are 2500 at 71-72mph, which I assume is similar to 35/4.88 or 37/5.13s?

FWIW I get 16mpg at 75 mph and 17-18 at 55mph with winter blend gas. My MPG are pretty accurate as once a week I go to Philadelphia from Annapolis up 95 (traffic is 75mph) and home from Philadelphia down route 301 (55mph or you get pulled over).

@Rockywoolf @Oletimer @rustyshakelford @intentsrig. I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on 5.13 or 4.88 for my 6 speed with 37s/beadlocks. I appreciate your feedback that 5.13s are great offroad, driving around town and cruising 2 lane roads at 55mph in 6th gear getting 17mpg. Will you provide feedback on how they perform on the hwy cruising at 75mph at 2600 ish rpm? It seems peak efficiency with 5.13s is around 55mph...how much do your mpg's drop cruising at 75mph? Thanks for your help.
Gotta check my mph at 70 again. I think my tire size is off.

Thanks!....that is a significant drop....especially for a 2 door on 35s.
I wish i had numbers for you but it’s truely sad the difference. I have “35s” more like 34s on a 2dr manual trans with 4.56.

I purposely take back roads to the trails that are 3hrs away. One to avoid traffic and two for gas savings. Sitting at 60mph In 6th is its sweet spot. Once I get to 70+ I can watch the gas gauge drop

edit, but I do love the gears and would recommend it to everyone, it changes the daily drive experience for the better and is so much nicer offroad

Strange...35s with 4.56 is just a little stronger than stock 4.10s and 33s. I wouldn't think you would see more than a 2-3mpg decrease on the hwy.

Well Damn,
I decided to just get 35's and re-gear. I'm on a Teraflex 2.5" lift with Falcon Shocks that accommodates 35's.
I learned a lot reading all the diverse opinions. Going to sell my 17x9 with 33" Fuel AT's.
Getting Fuel 20x10 Assault Wheels with 35" Atturo XT tires.
Like I mentioned at the first post, not much off road at all, and it's Florida, so looks like a Flat Earther's Paradise.

(picture is an example. I'm using XT tires)

I have same setup as you, manual, same axles etc. Running 315/70r17 tires. 34.5”

i have 4,56 gears and I think its perfect for offroad and onroad use. 33s would be screaming on the highway at 70+ with 4.56 or more imo
Would be good for towing though? I have a 2 door on 285/70 my trailer is on 265/70s and about 1500 lbs

yeah it would definitely be enough gearing, manual orAuto trans?
Manual, im running 285/70/17s towing my trailer 95% of the time. So putting it in 6th and cruising would make me happy haha

yeah, im
Pretty happy with 4.56 and 315/70r17
can use 6th easy at 60/65mph

also part reason is at 4.56, i believe the pinion ring gear is larger. Once you go to 4.88/5.13 etc they become smaller(weaker)

will need more gearing if i go 37s.

I had my 4.56 gears with 287/70 17s for more than a year (now with 315/70s), it was a great setup and definitely will fit the bill for towing.

Yeah any bigger then 4.56s with dana 30 is a bad idea from what all my long time jeeper friends have told me
