One thing I just thought about... How many of you have had the update that fixed the steering lock up and made the fan not run as loud? Mine didn't start doing this until after I had that TSB done.

It's not a constant problem but it's a problem that is there, the best way for the dealership to notice the misfire is to plug the obd computer to the wranglers obd port and take it for a ride, but no matter what they do to try to fix it the problem will eventually come back if FCA doesn't update the air/fuel ratio to make it a little bit richer
Ah, thanks for the responses and explanation.

I'm currently experiencing the exact same issue as everyone else on this thread. it has been getting louder and more constant lately and sounds horrendous. Taking mine in on monday to have it checked out, but from what I've read it doesnt seem to be resolvable.... This SUCKS

Went to the dealer yesterday and it wasnt making the sound... To me it really sounds like thin metal rattling. It did however do it on saturday when it was 80 degrees out, and it appears so far to mainly happen when its hot out and/or the jeep has been working hard; that mixed with the frequency of the motor when accelerating. The service guy at Jeep said it could be a heat shield rattling when the engine is dissipating a lot of heat mixed with the sound of the motor when accelerating (throaty deep low frequency sound). I'm so far from a mechanic that I have no clue, but the sound and the theory do sort of line up. I'll drop it back off at the dealer when we have a stretch of hot days (in WA state).

Send us a direct message before you head back into the dealer. We'd like to escalate a case to a Case Specialist who'll work with the dealer toward a potential resolution.

Mine still does it with any octane under 93.

It is clearly preignition.

Dealers answer is just to run higher octane and insist they don't ever hear of this issue.

No resolution. @JeepCares

I'm pretty sure its just slight knocking. The updated Pentastar has higher compression than before but same octane requirement so under heavy load and low RPMs (under ~2000) you can notice it.

Has anyone had this problem on the 4 cylinder turbo? Thatā€™s what I drive and have been having the rattling issue as described, but I have only been putting 87 octane in it because thatā€™s what my dealership told me to use when I bought it. I have recently switched to 93 octane (but it was 75% 93 and 25% 87) and I am just now about to get my first full take of 93 octane. Just wanted to see if it was usually only the 3.6 or not.

From what I understand we're all 3.6 engines, but keep us updated if you go to the dealer over it.

One thing ive thought about too is the summer blend fuel vs the winter blend. I bought my JL last July but didnt notice the knocking until some time in the fall and it has been doing it consistently all through the winter even though switching to premium has quieted it some and resulted in slightly better mpg. Now that were switching back to summer blends Im anticipating it may go away again.

Iā€™m actually taking it in Tuesday because I still need the TSB 18-041-18 update as I bought my JL back in October right before it came out and wasnā€™t aware of it until I got the oil changed at the beginning of April. Iā€™m getting gas today, so Iā€™ll have a couple days of driving it before I go in... if itā€™s still persisting, Iā€™ll bring it up then and let you all know if they have any feedback.

I took it to the dealership this morning for other service, and just received a call from my service advisor. He said that the rattling sound was related to the Turbo and that it was normal and that there was nothing else they could do at this time. Do you have any idea if there is something actually wrong of if thereā€™s something I can do to stop the noice? Itā€™s a pretty noticeable rattle (especially when the doors are off). It is intermittent but happens usually every time I drive my Jeep. The rattle sounds like itā€™s coming from the driverā€™s side of the engine bay.
