Hello all,

I have a fairly prevalent rattle coming from the back of cargo area (seems like passenger side). Happens on bumps and even hard braking. I have checked the usual suspects - subwoofer, general loose parts, spare tire bracket - but to no avail. The rattle seems louder with the soft top than the hard top (just switched over to hard top this weekend) - not sure if that is meaningful. Next step would be to have someone sit in the back seat to see if it can be better pinpointed (which is a production in itself as I have two car seats back there), but wondering if anyone has any other suggestions of things to check.

Thanks.

@Young04
You have also checked (pretty obvious) the jack and tire iron to assure they are not the source..... ?

Yes - checked that. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm wondering if I should check the spare tire bracket more thoroughly. That is louder with the soft top tells me that it may be outside of the Jeep.

I think I have something similar, but from the driver side. I have looked everything but can't find it. Almost sounds like lose bolt or something banging against something.

It was dead silent till it got cold outside and all kinds of noises are coming now.

Let us know if you end up going into the dealer to get the rattle checked out, Young04. We're available via direct message and get a Case Specialist to help along that process.

After it has been sitting for a while and everything is cooled down, craw under it, with gloves on just in case and start shaking things - muffler, etc. On one of my previous vehicles, I had a very weird rattling sound when driving and thumps when I would hit a pot hole, bridge overpass, or hard brake. I brought it to a mechanic, he drove it, said it was my brakes and I needed all new brake parts to fix it. Not trusting mechanics based on prior experience, I got under it, shook the muffler, that was tight, shook the spare tire (mounted under the vehicle) and the nut holding it up had come loose. I just twisted it tighter while pushing the tire up and that fixed it. I almost got ripped off, glad I checked myself before getting new brakes.

The other way would be to find out the minimum speed required to reproduce the rattle, then drive along side of t with another vehicle on a back road to see if you can pin point it.
